Stardew Valley is home to many flora and fauna that players can use in the game. Players of Stardew Valley that regularly fish know that some of these useful fish can only be caught during certain times of day or times of the year and in certain locations. So if a player is looking for a Woodskip, they may have some trouble coming across one without a little help.

The Woodskip

The Woodskip is a fish that prefers pools of water deep in the forest. These leaf-loving fish can be used for several fish-based recipes that call for "any fish" and also appear as one of the four fish in the Specialty Fish Bundle. Woodskips can also be used in the Stardew Valley Sewing Machine to make players a fishing vest, and they can be added to a Fish Pond to breed and output both wood and roe. But the main thing players will need a Woodskip for is the Fishpond Quest, where Dorado, Lingcod, or Pike can request two of these illusive fish.

Locations of Forest Ponds

Since Woodskips like to live in forests, players will need to find some water in a wooded area in order to fish one up. There are two locations of ponds that can house Woodskips: the Secret Woods and the Forest Farm both have ponds suited to fishing them up. Since players will most likely spend a lot of time in these locations foraging for Stardew Valley's plants and animals anyway, they should bring a fishing pole with them and try to hook one or two.

Woodskip fish in Stardew Valley

Thankfully, unlike many of the fish in Stardew Valley, players don't have to wait for a specific season or time of day. While they can also be caught on rainy days, they appear most frequently when the sun is out. Depending on fishing skill level, players will catch a Woodskip about 15-27% of the time. To increase these odds, players can also throw their line further out into the water; Woodskips prefer deeper waters further from shore than the carp that also inhabit these pools do.

Players can also boost their chances of nabbing one of these necessary fish by using bait on their Stardew Valley fishing rods. Bait is made from bug meat, which can be looted from bug-type enemies in mines. In order to use bait, players will also have to level up their fishing rods, which also improves the chances of catching better fish.

Stardew Valley is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
