Stardew Valley Creator Details Plans After Update 1.6

The creator of Stardew Valley reveals what his plans are after finishing work on the highly-anticipated Update 1.6.

ConcernedApe has been slowly revealing one new patch note for Stardew Valley Update 1.6 each day in the lead-up to its PC launch on March 19. The newest patch notes, revealed on March 15 and March 16, have confirmed that Stardew Valley will be adding a new honeymoon period for spouses and will be changing jelly, pickles, wines, and juices so that their color matches the ingredient item used to create them.

While the change to jelly, pickles, wines, and juices is self-explanatory, some fans may be curious what exactly the honeymoon period entails. Basically, there was a chance for Stardew Valley spouses to wallow in bed all day after marriage, but the new honeymoon period will prevent that from happening for at least seven days. This should ensure that Stardew Valley marriages remain happy affairs for at least one in-game week.

These are just the latest changes confirmed to be coming in Stardew Valley Update 1.6 Previously, ConcernedApe revealed that the update will make a change to fruit tree saplings so that cutting down a fruit tree now yields the appropriate fruit sapling. Additionally, the area of effect for downward-facing melee attacks is being extended, and a bug making it so harvesting left-to-right was faster than right-to-left is being addressed, so both methods are equally fast.

Another popular change coming in the next update will make a change to Stardew Valley pets so that the time required to pass through them when they're blocking the way is being reduced from 1.5 seconds to .75 seconds. These may all seem like small changes on paper, but quality of life improvements like these add up, and they should result in improving what is already an incredible game.

Stardew Valley Update 1.6 Patch Notes

  • Cutting down a fruit tree now yields the appropriate fruit sapling. If the tree is mature (i.e. the fruit quality is > basic), it will yield a sapling with the same quality as its fruit. The higher the quality, the faster the sapling will mature when replanted.
  • Extended the area of effect of downward facing melee attacks.
  • Fixed bug where it was faster to harvest left-to-right than right-to-left.
  • Jelly, pickles, wines, and juices are now colored based on the ingredient item.
  • Reduced the amount of time you need to push against a pet before they start shaking and then let you pass through them (1.5 -> .75 seconds).
  • Spouses now have a seven-day "honeymoon" period after marriage which prevents them from laying in bed all day due to being upset.
