Stardew Valley developer Eric Barone has revealed that the game is getting a new cosmetic feature in the next update for the game. Fans are already eagerly awaiting Stardew Valley's 1.6 update, and this will likely only increase the anticipation.

Stardew Valley originally launched back in 2016, but despite being an indie title with a sole developer, it's never gone completely stagnant. Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe, has repeatedly returned to the game to fine tune elements and add completely new things to the title. While the dev is putting most of his focus on his next game, Haunted Chocolatier, Stardew Valley is due to get at least one more significant update before calling it quits.

In a new tweet from the developer, a few screenshots have revealed the player's pets wearing hats and head accessories. Both the dogs and cats are depicted as wearing hats, with one dog wearing a giant bow on its head instead. While ConcernedApe didn't provide any details in his tweet, it stands to reason that Stardew Valley players can get hats and equip them on their pets, much as they can already place hats on horses in the game.

Fans are extremely excited by this sliver of information about the update, with several being outspoken in how charmed they were by the sight of pets wearing hats. While it's a minor cosmetic option that more likely than not won't have any real impact on gameplay, the ability to personalize one's farm and home have always been a big draw to the indie farm simulator, so this new feature fits right in.

Much of what is in the works for the Stardew Valley 1.6 update remains a mystery at this time, though ConcernedApe has teased a few things. New dialogue, winter outfits for NPCs, and even a new farm type are all being added to the game. The update is expected to release for free like all prior patches. Although ConcernedApe has stated repeatedly that the game is winding down, many of the game's most recent updates have come with far more features than he initially led on.

Plenty of fans are eagerly awaiting Haunted Chocolatier, but these updates have brought players back to Stardew Valley time and time again. Even once official updates truly cease, chances are fan-made mods for Stardew Valley will ensure that the game retains its active playerbase for years to come.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One.
