Star Wars isn't done with its Visions series of creative stories. They aren't the only ones. Marvel Comics is set to collaborate on a new project in the Visions series, and it looks to be a perfect companion piece for fans who already enjoyed the show's first two seasons.

Star Wars: Visions began as a collection of anime shorts from several acclaimed Japanese animation studios. But while its second season brought international studios to tell their own stories, it looks like the series' newest entry will return to its creative roots. Not only is a new story in the works from a Japanese creator, but this one will also transcend mediums. With some help from Marvel, Star Wars: Visions is taking a step into the comic book world.

As revealed by StarWars.com, legendary comic writer and artist Peach Momoko will create a one-shot in conjunction with Marvel as part of the Star Wars: Visions family. The release, titled Star Wars: Visions - Peach Momoko #1, will be the first in a new series of stories from several comics creators. Much like the 2 seasons fans have enjoyed on Disney Plus, this set of tales will be set in the Star Wars universe while staying disconnected from previous entries in the franchise. It will also feature several new characters from the artists' creative minds.

The new story from Momoko deals with Ankok, a cult devoted to a long-dead Sith Lord, and she's got some interesting ideas behind it. "I wanted to tell a story about a cult. And I felt within the Star Wars universe, the dark side was something that ties to when a human, or something living, loses itself and then wants to rely on believing something in order to have hope to live," Momoko explained. "I believe falling to the dark side is nothing to be ashamed of. It could save you. Sometimes the dark side can help defeat your trauma and fear. In the story, Ankok’s belief is that the time when light defeats darkness has ended. It is the time to accept the darkness. And [cult leader] Tata is only using the dark side to help those who need a 'dark light.'"

Momoko has some experience working with Marvel already, as 2021 saw her create what she calls the "Momoko-verse." This series of comics features her interpretations of various Marvel heroes through the lens of Japanese folklore. She also recently created a story for Star Wars: Darth Vader – Black, White & Red, which predictably offers an anthology of tales surrounding Darth Vader. So she's no newcomer to Star Wars or Marvel and will be a welcome addition to Visions.

More Star Wars: Visions is always worth celebrating, and jumping to comic books widens the appeal of the series. Momoko is an excellent jumping-off point, so here's hoping her work is only the beginning of something truly great.

Star Wars: Visions is available to stream on Disney Plus.
