As uncertain as everything is nowadays, and presumably for the entire foreseeable future, it can be comforting to find routine and guarantees wherever they can be scrounged up. For instance, ever since its late 2019 debut, the beloved Disney Plus Star Wars series The Mandalorian has become a beacon of comfort for its many viewers. That's not necessarily a comment on its quality, though it is quite good. But there's a certain relief that accompanies knowing there's more coming.

Luckily, now that promise of more has become even brighter. The filming of The Mandalorian's highly-anticipated 3rd season has officially wrapped, as confirmed by one of the show's own stars and directors. That's right. The wait before audiences get to see Din Djarin and Grogu in the weirdest road trip this side of Planes, Trains and Automibiles has just gotten even shorter. But what can viewers expect going forward? Well, aside from Christopher Lloyd appearing in The Mandalorian, anyway.

Well, fans might be able to feel out some predictions based on who shared the announcement. Carl Weathers, who has been charming audiences both on-screen and from the director's chair periodically throughout The Mandalorian's run so far, retweeted the declaration from Star Wars fan account Star WarsStuff. Fittingly, he added to the news that "The Mandalorian Season 3 has wrapped filming!" with his own flair of "...And what a season of WONDERFULNESS!" (Hey, he's a director. That flair for the dramatic comes with the territory.) The fan account, meanwhile, shared the news from a now-deleted Instagram post. Apparently, big announcements get run down the pipeline like a game of telephone. This is the way.

But back to Weathers. The veteran actor has confirmed that he'll return as a director for The Mandalorian season 3. Weathers previously directed the season 2 episode The Siege, which saw Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin aid Weathers' Magistrate Greef Karga taking out the last remaining Imperial base on Nevarro. The action-packed episode earned plenty of praise from viewers, and should offer a pretty good idea of what to expect when Weathers returns to direct again. Well, technically he already has returned, since season 3 has finished filming.

It seems the appearance of both Din Djarin and the young 50-year-old Force-user Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett got fans all riled up for the return of The Mandalorian. After ending season 2 on such a huge high note with the heavily CGI cameo from Luke Skywalker, many wondered where the show could go from there. Then The Book of Boba Fett said "this is where it goes from here" and basically became The Mandalorian season 2.5. So with Din and Grogu back together after their brief time apart, it will be interesting to see how the story progresses.

Unfortunately, there's still no confirmed release date for The Mandalorian season 3. But the knowledge that it has finally completed filming should give hungry fans some hope. After all, it wasn't too long ago that Star Wars fans had to wait years between new stories instead of months. They probably had to walk barefoot through the snow to see it, too. Uphill both ways. Surely this will be a cakewalk, especially with the Obi-Wan Kenobi series releasing soon (after a short delay).

The Mandalorian is available to stream on Disney Plus.
