While The Mandalorian fans wait for its fourth season, they'll have to wait even longer for its upcoming film. However, The Mandalorian and Grogu movie's reported working title may provide plot hints for the Star Wars movie.

The Mandalorian has become a pop culture hit, so it's natural that creator Jon Favreau would direct a movie starring the leading duo. While a new Rey-focused Star Wars movie under the working title "New Jedi Order" reportedly starts production soon, Favreau's The Mandalorian and Grogu will lead the new slate, going into production this year. The Disney release calendar can change at any time, but as it stands, three Star Wars films are set for May 22, 2026, December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027.

Star Wars fans may love Grogu, but what do they really know about his mysterious species?

Working titles may try to hide the true nature of the set, but, as the Cosmic Circus reports, The Mandalorian and Grogu's "Thunder Alley" working title refers to an already existing term in the Star Wars universe, mentioned only in Before the Storm, the first book in The Black Fleet Crisis trilogy of the Legends novels. This series of stories emphasizes the New Republic's military while diving into the political climate. The Star Wars fandom Wiki details Thunder Alley as "a region of space along the New Republic borders that several fleets rotated to patrol," with the Second Fleet patrolling it the longest and then being replaced with the First Fleet. This military aspect may explain why bounty hunter Din Djarin is called upon for his next adventure, and Thunder Alley may be the upcoming setting.

Din Djarin and Grogu

Of course, it's not sure that the working title will even be related to the story and finished product, but diehard fans will connect the dots of the lore. The Star Wars Legends stories refer to any de-canonized Star Wars books, comics, or games released before Disney bought the franchise in 2012, with anything released after being labeled as "canon." While some of the Legends-era plots have been incorporated into their modern storytelling, the possibility of a Legends story being told with The Mandalorian is exciting to some. If the story is entirely something else, it's at least likely to have season four of the series lead into it in some fashion, which has unknown plot details because audiences last saw Din and Grogu get a happy ending.

Many fans have taken to the internet to share their thoughts about The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, with some hating the character-named title. Some are curious about Pascal showing up on set for more than only voice work when the character translates from the small screen to the big screen. The majority of fans are certainly hoping that the project isn't just being done for the sake of popular characters but that there's a good vision for their future in a story that can be self-contained. More news will undoubtedly begin to be uncovered as production months edge closer.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is in pre-production.
