D23 spoiled Star Wars fans this year, with exciting reveals and trailers from the galaxy far, far away. One of the major trailers revealed the first look at Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, a collection of short stories in the stellar animation from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which tells the tales of a young Jedi Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano.

There’s a lot of promise in the new animated Star Wars show from Disney Plus, and with the show being canon to the Star Wars timeline, there have been some shocking reveals and revelations in just the trailer. Fans will have to wait a little while longer for what could be some of the best Star Wars content in recent years.

8 Ahsoka Is Jedi

For many years, Ahsoka Tano has been regarded as a fan favorite character. She was once a Jedi but left the order behind to follow her righteous path. Fans cheer with every appearance from the character, from a brilliant and charismatic performance from Ashley Eckstein, and now, a much anticipated live-action performance from Rosario Dawson.

The trailer sends audiences back to the past, where they will discover just how Ahsoka Tano joined the Jedi Order from a young age. The clan elder of her planet states “Jedi. Ahsoka is Jedi.”, showing how they will have to let her go to fulfill her training as a Jedi youngling.

7 Attack Of The Clones

For a brief moment in the trailer, fans may spot a different look for the ever-iconic Obi-Wan Kenobi. This fan favorite Star Wars character is seen with a Jedi mullet and beard, the look featured in Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones. Although brief, it all but confirms that Obi-Wan is in his “pre-Clone Wars” phase and before Revenge of the Sith.

Fans can never get enough of Obi-Wan Kenobi, so hopefully, his appearance in Tales of the Jedi is not a brief cameo, but an expanded role. Many fans are excited to see the character return in his Attack of the Clones style, as seen in Disney Plus’ Obi-Wan Kenobi flashback.

6 A New Sith

As stated by Yoda in The Phantom Menace, “always two there are, no more, no less.” The trailer for Tales of the Jedi confirms that perhaps not all is what it seems, as Ahsoka Tano faces off against an ominous black-cloaked villain, wielding a dual red lightsaber, and a scary-looking bone mask.

The Sith seen in the trailer may be an early form of Inquisitor, considering the Empire’s crest is on his attire, and his lightsaber design is that of the Inquisitors. The reveal of Ahsoka Tano after the events of Order 66 fighting an Inquisitor will be a memorable one.

5 Anakin’s Harsh Training

Every fan of Star Wars knows just how tragic the story of Anakin Skywalker is. However, what many might not know, is just how harsh his tactics are. Anakin has been the result of many war crimes, like fake surrendering to enemies, but the trailer shows a more ruthless side of Anakin. In the trailer, Anakin is seen training Ahsoka Tano to the point where she can barely walk.

Anakin states that his training is to protect Ahsoka, and it certainly works for the best, as she faces off against Anakin’s 501st troops. Her training against clone troopers is unique, as no other Jedi trained against the clones, showing just how efficient Anakin’s training was to Ahsoka’s Order 66 survival.

4 Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn

One of the most famed Jedi of the Republic is Qui-Gon Jinn, a Jedi Master who lost his life to Darth Maul. Thanks to a performance by Liam Neeson, fans adored Qui-Gon Jinn and longed to see more of him before his death. The Jedi Master to Obi-Wan Kenobi and the needed father figure to Anakin Skywalker have a lot of history in need of exploration, and seeing him in Tales of the Jedi may be the answer to that.

Qui-Gon Jinn is revealed in Tales of the Jedi to be the young padawan to Count Dooku. Qui-Gon is extremely young, lacking a beard and that deep voice of Liam Neeson. It will be interesting to see how Dooku’s teachings affected Qui-Gon, and his thoughts and feelings about the Jedi Council.

3 Story Of Yaddle

yaddle from star wars: tales of the jedi

One of the greatest mysteries in Star Wars is just what is Yoda’s species. The answer may be far away somewhere, but Yoda is not the only one of his kind. Fans have seen Yoda’s species in The Mandalorian, with the internet-dubbed “Baby Yoda” stirring quite the trouble for the cast of characters. However, another of Yoda’s species was seen briefly in The Phantom Menace, a character named Yaddle.

Yaddle disappeared after The Phantom Menace for reasons only explained in the Legends timeline, but Tales of the Jedi may very well have a tragic answer to where Yaddle went. Yaddle is a female version of Yoda’s species and is seen in the trailer clashing lightsabers with Count Dooku.

2 Jedi Dooku

One of the biggest reveals from Tales of the Jedi is a deeper look into Count Dooku’s past. It’s common knowledge that Dooku used to be a Jedi and a pupil of Grandmaster Yoda. However, after the events of The Phantom Menace, Dooku wanted to destroy the Jedi Order for logical reasons, for Dooku was never corrupted completely by the Dark side of the Force, making him a very interesting and tactical character.

The trailer shows Dooku sporting his iconic lightsaber hilt, but with a blue blade. It’s used many times throughout the trailer, along with some forbidden Dark side Force powers, much to the dismay of Qui-Gon Jinn and Mace Windu.

1 Ahsoka At Padme’s Funeral

As far as tragedy goes, perhaps none in the Star Wars universe surpasses the love story of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala. When Padme died, the galaxy mourned the loss of the Queen and senator of Naboo. Many arrived for her funeral, and Tales of the Jedi reveals that Ahsoka Tano was present for the funeral, despite being a wanted Jedi.

Ahsoka and Padme knew each other well since Ahsoka was the Padawan to Anakin Skywalker. The scene from Tales of the Jedi is sure to be a tragic one, and a rather emotional event to revisit the tragedy of Padme’s death.
