More often than naught, big budget Star Wars games under EA have had rocky launches, highlighted by the controversy that spawned alongside Star Wars: Battlefront 2. However, it seems that Motive Studios was able to buck that trend with Star Wars Squadrons, a consumer friendly priced game that puts players in the shoes of ace pilots. The game is largely viewed as a big success for the studio, which has since moved on to other projects.

In a recent interview, Motive general manager Patrick Klaus, announced that the studio has a new mission statement following the release of Star Wars Squadrons which is now "To empower players to create, experiment, live and share their unique stories."

In addition to the new mission state, Klaus also went on to confirm that the studio currently has multiple projects in development, but wouldn't go as far as to reveal much about them. When pressed for more information, Klaus was only able to confirm that the projects were a mix of original IPs as well as based on existing franchises. Considering how well it handled the Star Wars IP, it wouldn't be too surprising to see another game set there.

Overall, the success of Squadrons has proven to be a big boost to the team as well as EA who Klaus said is "all-in" on to establish a name for itself and its ideas. The global pandemic made things more challenging than expected on Motive, forcing them all to adapt by working from home since mid-March like many other businesses. While the team continues to work from home, management has attempted to make things feel like business as usual, providing hardware, dev kits, and anything else employees may need.

In the meantime, for those who were hoping for more to come with Star Wars Squadrons, Motive Studios provided some disappointing news this past week. While this generation of games is synonymous with downloadable content, Motive ultimately designed the budget priced Star Wars Squadrons to be a complete experience at launch. At this time, the studio has no plans to add more content to the game such as new maps, game modes, or other items. It's certainly a different and somewhat refreshing change of pace compared to most games this generation which continue to release paid content over a number of years.

Star Wars: Squadrons is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
