Disney's tenure over Star Wars has been a mixed bag, to say the least, but it’s usually fans and not the company itself that makes fun of the sequel trilogy’s shortcomings. However, that’s not the case a few miles down South.

On October 12, Facebook, TikTok, and most prominently Twitter became mined with countless posts plastered with red flags as the internet’s new favorite meme, used to signal both popular and unpopular opinions prone to granting red flag status to someone. It didn’t take long for companies to start taking advantage of this to promote their own products or disparage the competition, a move copied by Disney Latin America as swiftly as Star Wars' Luke powering out his lightsaber right before a sleeping Ben Solo.

In just a few characters, Disney Plus’ official Latin America Twitter account voiced what many Star Wars consider to be an important truth. The account simply wrote, “The last Star Wars trilogy is the best one,” followed by two lines of flags in Sith lightsaber color. The post quickly went viral with nearly 50k likes and 8k retweets in less than 24 hours. Replies have been filled by many fans agreeing with such sentiment.

Besides those echoing the very popular opinion that Star Wars' latest trilogy is not the finest thing to have come from the faraway galaxy, many also wondered if this was a case of some social media wizards going rogue against Disney, given how rare it is for the company to decry its own works. At the time of writing the tweet is still up, so it seems like the Latin American branch is just a bit more playful with these things.

It’s no secret the Star Wars sequel trilogy doesn’t get much love from fans, or even people with close ties to the franchise who worked on previous Star Wars movies, so these kinds of jokes are telling of Disney and Lucasfilm’s awareness that something went wrong. Although the sequel trilogy remains a contentious chapter in the Star Wars universe, the franchise appears to have found a certain footing on Disney Plus after The Mandalorian's success.

Disney recently teased a new Star Wars game that could join an eventual Fallen Order 2 and the long-awaited LEGO Skywalker Saga, both of which have been graciously welcomed by fans. While the sequel trilogy is a lesser chapter in Star Wars canon, it’s great to see Disney make fun of itself as its new shows start to roll out.

The Star Wars saga is now available on Disney Plus.
