Rogue Squadron should consider itself a more grounded story set in the Star Wars universe, and leave out all mentions of mystical forces.

During a recent episode of the Talking Pictures podcast, host Ben Mankiewicz engaged in an insightful conversation with Jenkins. The interview delved into Jenkins' illustrious career and her perspectives on navigating Hollywood as a female director. Jenkins also addressed the speculation surrounding a potential Star Wars script. Finally, she confirmed that she is actively involved in the development of Rogue Squadron, affirming, "I now owe a draft of Star Wars."

Jenkins initially stepped away from the Star Wars project due to scheduling conflicts, primarily focusing on her commitment to Wonder Woman 3. However, when plans for Wonder Woman 3 fell apart, Jenkins found herself returning to Lucasfilm to finish her job. Reflecting on the sequence of events, Jenkins explained, “When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Okay, well maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3,‘ so we did a deal for that to happen, started a deal. But I thought I was doing Wonder Woman 3. When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows.”

In discussing the vision for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Jenkins expressed her long-held desire to create a fighter pilot movie, which is now becoming a reality. She stated that Star Wars provides an ideal 'playground' to bring this concept to fruition, emphasizing how the themes of fighter pilots and the eternal struggle between good and evil seamlessly intertwine within the Star Wars universe. Jenkins passionately asserted that bringing such a project to life would fulfill a dream, given the rich storytelling potential it offers.

While Rogue Squadron has not received official confirmation, Jenkins is actively working on a script for the project. Acknowledging the challenges inherent in such a venture, Jenkins described it as a demanding task for herself and Lucasfilm. Jenkins emphasizes the collaborative effort between the two parties, highlighting their commitment to refining the script until they are both satisfied with the result of the Star Wars project.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is reportedly in development at Lucasfilm.
