Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws, which is developed by Massive Entertainment, is set to be released sometime in 2024. Recent years have included big milestones for Star Wars games, yet Ubisoft promises that Star Wars Outlaws will be bigger than any of the previous games in the Star Wars franchise. The Star Wars: Jedi games have set the bar quite high, and it will be interesting to see if Ubisoft’s brand new Star Wars game will be able to surpass it. Star Wars Outlaws promises a variety of exciting features so far, so this new entry into the franchise may have a good chance at reaching or surpassing the bar that previous Star Wars games have set.

From both returning and new fascinating planets, such as the well-known Tatooine and the brand new Toshara, to new characters such as the new cunning protagonist Kay Vess and her adorable companion Nix, Star Wars Outlaws sure seems to have a lot going on. One feature that sets it apart from EA’s Star Wars: Jedi is the fact that Kay Vess is not a Jedi; instead, she is a scoundrel with a blaster, which is a breath of fresh air. Whether Star Wars Outlaws will be a hit with fans or fall into the far reaches of the galaxy is unknown, but the appealing features that have been confirmed could hook fans.

Every Planet Confirmed for Star Wars Outlaws So Far

There are lots of planets in the Star Wars Galaxy, and Star Wars Outlaws is set to feature a brand-new one alongside several other known locations.

What Ubisoft Has Confirmed for Star Wars Outlaws So Far

All Confirmed Planets in Star Wars Outlaws So Far

  • Tatooine, the notorious crime hot spot and the home planet of Star Wars icon Luke Skywalker
  • Cantonica, the gambling center for the rich and powerful in the Outer Rim
  • Kijimi, the home of the infamous Spice Runners
  • Akiva, a bustling jungle world
  • Toshara, a brand-new planet with arid windswept plains

It is likely players will have a lot to do on these planets. At this time, there are few confirmed activities, but following previous Star Wars games and the latest game by Massive Entertainment, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, it is very likely that Star Wars Outlaws will have plenty of fun challenges to keep players entertained.

All Confirmed Characters in Star Wars Outlaws So Far

  • Kay Vess: A cunning thief and rookie scoundrel who originates from the workers' district in Canto Bight on the planet Cantonica. She is the protagonist of Star Wars Outlaws.
  • Nix: A brand-new type of creature called a Merqaal. Nix is the companion of Kay Vess and helps on her missions.
  • ND-5: A commando droid who fought in the Clone Wars for the Confederacy of Independent Systems. After the Clone Wars, ND-5 served the Empire as an enforcer droid. Nothing has been revealed about why he left the Empire, but he became associates with Kay Vess to pull off a major heist.
  • Jaylen: Jaylen is an associate of Kay Vess and offers her “a way out” in the world premiere trailer. He bears a striking resemblance to Kyle Katarn, a protagonist from the Star Wars: Jedi Knight games.
  • Jabba the Hutt: The infamous crime lord Jabba the Hutt has had a long history with Star Wars. He was first mentioned in A New Hope before appearing in Return of the Jedi, where he meets his end at the hands of Princess Leia Organa. Since Outlaws takes place before Return of the Jedi, Jabba has ample room to influence the crime narrative.
  • Salacious B. Crumb: A Kowakian Monkey-Lizard who served Jabba the Hutt as his court jester in his palace on Tatooine.
  • Danke: A Mon Calamari who is seen in the gameplay trailer for Star Wars Outlaws. Not much is known about her, other than that she is an information broker and, according to ND-5, she can’t be trusted.

There are bound to be many more characters that players can meet once the game is released, and it will certainly be interesting to find out more about the current confirmed characters, especially Jaylen. There have been many theories about Jaylen and his resemblance to Kyle Katarn. However, fans will have to wait a little longer until they can find out who Jaylen really is. There are other characters that appeared in the trailers for Star Wars Outlaws, but it is unsure what role they may play.

  • Unidentified Imperial Officer: Not much is known about this character, but they do appear in the gameplay trailer, who Danke calls “just a friend”.
  • Han Solo: He appeared in the world premiere trailer and was seen frozen in carbonite.

In the world premiere trailer, Han Solo was seen in carbonite. However, considering that Star Wars Outlaws is set between the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, it is very unlikely that he will have a role to play. Han Solo might just get a cameo as an ornament in Jabba’s Palace.

All Confirmed Gameplay Features in Star Wars Outlaws So Far

  • Reputation and Wanted System
  • Spaceship Battles
  • Open World
  • Traversing with a Speeder
  • Dialogue Choices
  • Stealth System

Ubisoft has promised that Star Wars Outlaws will be a fully open world game with bigger areas than the Star Wars Jedi games had. Players can make choices that will affect Kay Vess’ reputation with certain organizations and syndicates. However, it has been confirmed that there aren’t any branching narrative threads and that these choices don’t affect the overall story of the game. Ubisoft has also promised space battles, reputation tracks, and a wanted system that is reminiscent of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. In the gameplay trailer from July 2023, Ubisoft showcased a stealth system and the primary mode of traversal, a speeder. Kay Vess’ little companion Nix also has his own gameplay uses:

  • Activating switches and buttons.
  • Distracting enemies.
  • Grabbing weapons and giving them to Kay Vess.

Outlaws has a good blueprint so far, even if concrete details are scarce in some areas. Ubisoft will presumably reveal more details about these features and additional content as 2024 progresses.

What Ubisoft has Revealed About the Story of Star Wars Outlaws

The premise of Star Wars Outlaws follows Kay Vess as she attempts to pull off one of the biggest heists the Outer Rim has seen -- big enough that it will set her up for a new life. Ubisoft has been quiet when it comes to revealing details about the story, which is understandable. It would be remiss if Ubisoft spoiled the game before it’s even released. Apart from the heist, it has been revealed that the Empire and various criminal syndicates will be involved in Star Wars Outlaws' story.

In the debut trailer, it’s shown that Kay Vess has a bounty on her, and it seems possible that someone is after her, especially with Jaylen saying “You’ll never have to look behind your shoulder again” when offering her a job. The job in question is presumably this big heist that Kay will be taking part in.

Star Wars Outlaws Confirmed Platforms and Release Date

Ubisoft has confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws will release on the following platforms:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X and S
  • Microsoft Windows

There is no confirmed release date, but Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to release sometime in 2024. Looking back at the track record of release dates for Star Wars games in the last 10 years, it is possible that Star Wars Outlaws will release sometime in Q2 or Q4 2024. Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order were all released in the middle of November of their respective years, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was released at the end of April 2023.

Planets That Should Be In Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws will allegedly be the first truly open-world Star Wars RPG, and if that's true, then it's going to need to show some iconic planets.

Star Wars Outlaws Will Likely Have a Season Pass

Star Wars Outlaws Explorable Coruscant

Ubisoft’s History With Season Passes

When looking back at many Ubisoft releases, they have one thing in common: a Ubisoft season pass. Season passes for games from Ubisoft are common, if not guaranteed. Ever since Assassin’s Creed 3, most AAA releases from Ubisoft have also had a season pass accompany it. With Ubisoft’s track record, and Star Wars being a major franchise, it is very likely that Star Wars Outlaws will be given the same treatment.

What The Season Pass Could Contain

Ubisoft season passes generally tend to include story expansions, an exclusive quest, and cosmetic and equipment packs that contain outfits and weapons, as well as a new look for the main method of transportation. With pretty much every season pass that Ubisoft has released, there have always been new areas to explore and new quests. A Star Wars Outlaws season pass would likely bring new planets to explore, and quests to complete. Planets that could potentially make an appearance include:

  • Coruscant: The lower levels of this city planet are teeming with criminals. Coruscant would make an interesting addition to Star Wars Outlaws, especially since Jedi: Survivor used Coruscant for a more linear experience in the game compared to its other planets.
  • Ord Mantell: This planet was heavily featured in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which showed the planets' criminal side. During the height of the Empire, crime was still a large part of Ord Mantell.
  • Nal Hutta: Nal Hutta is the swampy home world of the Hutts, and the Hutt Cartel is a cornerstone of the Star Wars criminal underworld. With Jabba confirmed to appear in Star Wars Outlaws, there’s plenty of potential for Nal Hutta to appear in a season pass.

As well as new planets to possibly explore in the season pass, a few story expansions would likely be included in the season pass. Looking at previous season passes released by Ubisoft, each story expansion might take players to a new region to explore and a new line of quests that possibly take place after the main story of the game. It would be very interesting to see if Ubisoft releases a season pass for Star Wars Outlaws, and if it does, where in the Star Wars galaxy it could take players.

Star Wars Outlaws Will Likely Have In-Game Purchases

As well as season passes, there will likely be an in-game store where players can purchase new cosmetics, such as new outfits, weapons and more. If Ubisoft includes an in-game store, it would be interesting to see what cosmetic designs players could purchase. There might be a collaborative outfit with some of Ubisoft’s other games.

In the Far Cry and Watch Dog games, there were often outfits and collectibles that resembled an outfit or character from Assassin's Creed that could be purchased from the in-game stores of these games. Since Star Wars Outlaws is developed by Massive Entertainment, there could be an outfit that resembles an RDA or Na’vi outfit from Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which was also developed by Massive Entertainment. Whatever the case, Star Wars games have proven to be quite popular, and Star Wars Outlaws will release in a year full of exciting new games.
