Star Wars Outlaws has officially gone gold, giving an exciting update for fans awaiting the game's arrival. With an August 30 launch in sight, Star Wars Outlaws looks to be right on track to hit the shelves without any delay.

Developed by Ubisoft-owned studio Massive Entertainment, Star Wars Outlaws is a third-person action-adventure game for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It takes place between the events of the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back and the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, and leverages the hugely popular franchise's lore. The open-world game follows the journey of an outlaw, or "scoundrel" in Star Wars terms, who wants to land a big score in order to start her life anew. Notably, it marks the first time a Star Wars game is not coming from EA since the Jedi: Fallen Order publisher signed an exclusivity deal with Disney.

Star Wars Outlaws Needs to Acknowledge One Faction Ravaged by the Empire

Star Wars Outlaws is already spinning a lot of plates, but it would be great to see the game acknowledge one fan-favorite faction at some point.

In a Twitter post, the official Star Wars Outlaws account shared that the game has "gone gold," meaning that the game is finally in a state to be shipped. This implies that the game is expected to roll out on the release day and will likely not face any delays. While major titles like Cyberpunk 2077 have had their release dates pushed back even after going gold, these are exceptional cases and not the norm for games that reach this stage. Importantly, even though a game going gold establishes that it's playable from start to end, it doesn't signify perfection or guarantee a total absence of bugs. Any possible major issues are usually addressed by the devs through a day-one patch. Fueling the excitement among fans ahead of launch, the developer also stated that it "can't wait" for the players to explore the Outer Rim and the life of a scoundrel.

Star Wars Outlaws, the First Open-World Star Wars Game, Goes Gold

Last month, Ubisoft gave fans an extensive look at Star Wars Outlaws via a gameplay walkthrough video during the Ubisoft Forward stream. The French developer showed a number of different aspects, such as combat, traversal, open-world locations, skill trees, and minigames, among other things. Interestingly, the showcase put both the game's stealth-based combat and its gunplay into the spotlight. It also revealed how space traversal differs from on-ground traversal in the sci-fi title.

Continuing a good spell for fans of the long-running franchise, Star Wars Outlaws is yet another Star Wars game to come in recent years. It follows after certain well-received games within the IP, such as 2022's LEGOStar Wars: The Skywalker Saga and 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Given the fairly impressive track record of Star Wars games, it will be interesting to see how Ubisoft's take on the franchise performs when Star Wars Outlaws hits the stores.
