Based on all the rumors surrounding the upcoming Disney+ limited series Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, it's increasingly looking as though all those years out in the desert of Tatooine weren't quite as boring as many might have thought. A recent rumor suggests that not only will Old Ben face some imposing adversaries throughout the story, but he might even travel off-world briefly. So much for watching over little Luke, eh?

A currently unconfirmed report from Making Star Wars asserts that the limited series will feature at least one tense battle between Ewan McGregor's grizzled Jedi hermit and a Sith Inquisitor. This wouldn't be entirely unexpected, given the Inquisitors' presence in a number of Star Wars properties over recent years like Star Wars Rebels and Jedi: Fallen Order. Six of them were encountered over the two stories, and since there are apparently 11 Inquisitors overall in the Star Wars canon, that leaves a hefty 5 more still to be encountered. At least, that's assuming they haven't already been seen in the comics. Following Star Wars lore can sometimes be like keeping track of all the new Pokémon: it gets exponentially harder with each passing year.

The same rumor mill asserts the possibility that Obi-Wan will travel somewhere besides Tatooine at some point in the series, though no elaboration was given. Even with that in mind, the consensus is still that the majority of the series will take place on that same desert planet where nobody knows if Luke ever got those power converters. That adds some interesting implications to the possible encounter or encounters with members of the fancy lightsaber-wielding Inquisitors, because Obi-Wan's self-imposed exile on Tatooine is supposed to be kept a secret from pretty much everyone. If an Inquisitor finds him there, odds are they'll end up dead or on his side.

Star Wars Inquisitors Inquisitorius Sith

But who are the Inquisitors, exactly? In the time leading up to Palpatine's declaration of the Jedi Order as traitors to the Republic, the future Emperor kept tabs on certain Jedi who appeared to have more selfish and power-hungry tendencies. Knowing them to be easier to sway to the dark side, he manipulated them to shift their allegiances to him, forming the Inquisitorius. Their sole purpose was to hunt down any Jedi who survived the purge initiated by Order 66 and finish the job. So it would certainly not be out of the question to see at least one show up looking for Obi-Wan.

This rumor may go a long way in fueling speculation about the upcoming series. As mentioned before, the idea that an Inquisitor will find Obi-Wan suggests that it will end with him either killing them or turning them to his side. Anything else would keep him and Luke in danger, since even just escaping would mean the Inquisitorius knows about Tatooine and why he's there. So maybe the Inquisitor will be the primary villain driving the whole story in that case. Of course, those assumptions are still premature, particularly considering how long of a wait there still is before Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres. But hey, speculation is all there is right now.
