A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Fans of Star Wars would be familiar with the planet the episode opens up on; Coruscant, home to the Jedi Council. Hayden Christensen returns as Anakin Skywalker and Ewan McGregor returns as the mullet-wielding Obi-Wan Kenobi. The actors don their appearances from Episode 2:Attack of the Clones.

To see Anakin and Obi-Wan together again, before the dark times, before the Empire, is beautifully tragic. The flashback runs through the majority of the episode, spliced between memories of Darth Vader and an aged Obi-Wan Kenobi recounting how to beat each other in their battle.

8 The New Grand Inquisitor

As Vader is pulled from his memories of his friendship and training with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Reva informs him of where Kenobi is. Kenobi is on the planet Jabiim, with Vader and his forces on his way to stomp him out, and the rebellion that protects The Path.

Vader makes Reva kneel, and honors her with the title of Grand Inquisitor. This title was bestowed upon her after a vacancy, as unbeknownst to Vader, Reva killed the Grand Inquisitor to take the credit for Kenobi’s capture. Reva as the Grand Inquisitor alters the canon fans knew from Star Wars: Rebels. Or is it all a ploy?

7 Reva The Secret Rebel

As the forces of the Empire land on Jabiim, Obi-Wan and the other rebels are left with no choice but to wait for them to breach the doors that house them. To stall for time, Obi-Wan talks to Reva through the doors that the Empire is trying to breach. This is so that the rebels can open the hanger doors and escape.

With time to stall, the negotiations were short between Reva and Obi-Wan, but Kenobi deduces the truth about Reva. She isn’t serving Darth Vader but is hunting him. She knows he is Anakin, because she witnessed him slaughtering younglings, and she had to hide amongst the dead and has been dreaming of revenge ever since. Yet she resents Obi-Wan for not being there to save them all.

6 Obi-Wan Kenobi Fights The Empire

Anakin & Obi-Wan

As the doors to the rebels are breached, Stormtroopers, Purge Troopers, and Reva march forward. Blaster fire fills the corridors, as they flood inside, killing many rebel forces in the process. Obi-Wan stands at the front lines, his lightsaber ignited with its distinct blue hue and hum ready to protect the innocent lives behind him.

As Obi-Wan tactically strikes at Stormtroopers and Purge Troopers, he thins their numbers and deflects their blaster fire back into them. It’s very reminiscent of his Clone Wars days and shows how even out of practice for ten years, the Jedi Master still has it.

5 Tala’s Sacrifice

Despite the fighting from Obi-Wan and the rebels, they are no match for the might of the Empire. Their numbers are far greater, and their skill far superior. As they begin to retreat into the hangar, Tala is caught in the fire and shot in the stomach. This wound leaves her on the floor, and her faithful Loader Droid, NED-B, dies protecting her.

Obi-Wan desperately clamors and fights to save her, but with her dying breath, she activates a thermal detonator, to kill herself and the Empire forces that are trapped in the room with her. It’s a dark moment, and Tala’s sacrifice bought Obi-Wan and the rebels more time.

4 The Chosen One’s Power

One of the coolest moments from “Part 5” was when Darth Vader breached the hangar only to find that the rebels, with Obi-Wan onboard, are fleeing in a ship. Vader wastes no time in grabbing the ship with the Force, showing just how powerful and rageful he is to claim his former Master and the catalyst of his suffering.

Vader grounds the ship, with only minor strain on his breath. By throwing back his hands, he breaks the ship apart, piece by piece. It is incredibly intimidating, to see his immense power, and fear what his potential would have been if Obi-Wan did not cut off his limbs.

3 Darth Vader Versus Reva

Reva interrupts Vader’s moment as she ignites her lightsaber, and attempts to strike him down. Vader uses the force to freeze her in motion and then allows her to use her energy and anger in an attempt to kill him. With quick steps and evades, and a powerful ally in the Force, Vader shows that he does not need a lightsaber to claim victory, showing that he has indeed learned from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

After taking her lightsaber, Vader allows her to fight. The two clash crimson blades, but it is useless to resist Vader’s power, and Reva is soon stabbed in the stomach.

2 The Grand Inquisitor Lives

Vader & The Grand Inquisitor

As Reva falls due to being impaled with Vader’s lightsaber, Vader taunts her and her uselessness. Out emerges the Grand Inquisitor, last seen in “Part 2” when Reva stabbed him in the stomach. The Grand Inquisitor Pau’an species, who are known for having multiple stomachs, hence his ability to survive the wound.

By having the Grand Inquisitor live, it reinforces the canon established with Star Wars: Rebels, and means that the series can continue with a set canon intact. Many fans had wondered if the Grand Inquisitor was dead, what else would Disney alter from the canon?

1 Luke Skywalker Is In Danger

Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor leave Reva to die on Jabiim. She lays there, clutching her wound until she sees an old Jedi Holoprojector. This was the Holoprojector that Obi-Wan gave to Haja to keep safe, to which he dropped it in the rush to escape the planet.

After activating the Holoprojector, Reva discovers that “the boy” on Tatooine, housed by Owen Lars, needs to be protected. The question remains whether Reva will go there to assist Owen, or to further hurt Obi-Wan. The episode ends with a young Luke Skywalker, blissfully unaware of his fate, as he sleeps at the Lars homestead on Tatooine.
