As Disney Plus rolls out another episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, fans of the Star Wars franchise eagerly pause and observe every frame for easter eggs and references to many of the franchise call-backs over the past 45 years. In Star Wars, almost every word can be a reference. From planet names to spoken phrases.
With the release of Part 4 of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it’s time to take a look at the recent episode of the Disney Plus series, and dissect some of the more obscure easter eggs and references that die-hard Star Wars fans would be interested to know.

9 The Planet Balnab
Whilst keeping the young Princess Leia in a guarded room, Reva brings up the planet Balnab. This is a planet that Star Wars fans have seen before in Season 4, Episode 6 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The planet was first featured in the animated series with the episode “Nomad Droids,” which centered around R2-D2 and C-3PO.
The planet itself is located in the Mid Rim and served as a home to a group of alien castaways. This planet is rather desolate and uninhabited by organic beings. The only intelligent beings to live in this world was a crew of an alien cruiser.
8 The Symbolism Of Obi-Wan’s New Robes
After Obi-Wan barely survives Darth Vader’s duel on Mapuzo, he is taken to Jabiim to heal at the hands of a Bacta Tank. His easy loss came from the fact he had not used a lightsaber or the Force in over ten years, to hide and to protect anyone from discovering him or Luke Skywalker.
When Kenobi emerges from his Bacta tank, he is sporting the garb of the Jedi once more. What’s different is that these robes are grayer than normal, except for his undershirt. Perhaps the white tunic indicates his closeness to the light, and the gray robes allude to his broken connection and inexperience in the Force.
7 Leia’s Strength In The Force
Reva grows impatient and tired of Leia’s games. The young Princess of Alderaan refuses to expose the allies of the Jedi, even after being told that they let Obi-Wan Kenobi burn to death. Leia’s stoicism shows just how strong she is, as we saw when she lied to Tarkin and Vader in A New Hope about the location of the Rebel base.
To try and speed up the information, Reva tries to reach into Leia’s mind, yet she easily resists her mind tricks with the Force. Leia is strong in the force without knowing it, thanks to her father Anakin Skywalker.
6 Obi-Wan Goes Swimming
As the early onset of Rebels and Obi-Wan Kenobi attempt to break into Fortress Inquisitorius to save Leia, the only way Kenobi can enter undetected is by swimming underneath the castle. Fans of The Phantom Menace may see this scene as a callback to when Qui-Gon Jinn, Jar Jar Binks, and Obi-Wan Kenobi swam to the Gungan city, which resides under the waters of Naboo.
Obi-Wan even sports a Jedi rebreather to maintain his oxygen levels underwater and does the same style of swimming as he did in The Phantom Menace. It’s a fun reminiscence of the pre-Clone War and Empire days.
5 Infiltrating Fortress Inquisitorius
Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t the first Jedi to break into the guarded castle, a fortress to the Inquisitors, and a station of Imperials and Stormtroopers. Around five years prior, the protagonist of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis, led the charge to attack the fortress.
Cal and the former Jedi, Cere Junda, infiltrated Fortress Inquisitorius to retrieve Eno Cordova’s Holocron, a peculiar box that is only able to be opened through a Force user, and it contains a list of names and locations of young Force-sensitives throughout the galaxy.
4 Tera Sinube, Jedi Elder
Obi-Wan ventures deeper into the unknown of the Inquisitor’s fortress in the Mustafar system, and discovers the true purpose of the fortress. It is a tomb for the hunted and slain Jedi. As Obi-Wan explores the tomb, he sees many faces of the Prequel era. One character that Obi-Wan spots could well be Tera Sinube.
Tera Sinube was an elder Jedi Master. He had quite the life, a veteran of the Clone Wars and a trainer of Jedi younglings. He made his appearances in The Clone Wars and developed a friendship with Ahsoka Tano. Sadly, it seems that Sinube was slain after Order 66, and he remains encased in an amber substance in the Jedi tomb.
3 Hondo Ohnaka’s Florrum
The planet Florrum was a sulfureous desert planet in the Outer Rim. During the Clone Wars, Florrum was a planet utilized by the legendary pirate and double-crossing mastermind, Hondo Ohnaka. Hondo has appeared in both The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels and is regarded as a fan-favorite character of both series.
Florrum was briefly invaded and held by The Separatists and General Grievous, but with the help of the Jedi, Hondo was able to reclaim the planet. Hondo’s stronghold on Florrum was quite the location, and he is a character who has a history with Obi-Wan and Anakin.
2 Purge Troopers
Most of Part 4 of Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place on Fortress Inquisitorius. Fans of Fallen Order recognize this base from the game, as well as the many troopers that patrol the ominous structure. One such type of trooper on Fortress Inquisitorius is that of the Purge Troopers.
Purge Troopers are Imperial soldiers led by Darth Vader and the Inquisitors. Their goal is to assist in hunting down any surviving Jedi after Order 66. Only the most elite soldiers become Purge Troopers, and most of them were clones from the Galactic Republic’s Fett-template army. They were later phased out by regular people inside their sinister black armor.
1 Cal Kestis’ Vader Confrontation
When Obi-Wan valiantly rescues Leia from a torture chamber, he is confronted by several Stormtroopers, Purge Troopers, and a Seeker Droid. As they use their blasters to try and shoot Kenobi, he deflects them back into them. Due to his lack of experience, some blaster bolts deflect into the glass. This hallway seems to be the same hallway that Cal Kestis fought Darth Vader in.
Much like Fallen Order, the Jedi is assisted by the cracking of glass, to which a rupture of invading water fills the room and kills the Stormtroopers. In Fallen Order, Vader contains the water through his powers in the Force, and it serves as a distraction for Cal to escape.
