Saturday, Rian Johnson, the director for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, took to Twitter to throw shade at the Star Wars fans who have been very vocal about their distaste for his film.

Johnson used a Pokemon GO screenshot of a shadow Grimer named "Discourse." This is his shot at fans who have repeatedly criticized his telling of Star Wars.

Johnson has been criticized heavily for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and his overall telling of Star Wars and his handling of the character Luke Skywalker. Many fans were not pleased and started a petition to have the film removed from the official Star Wars canon. Even the main actors of the film have gone to criticize him and go so far as to say that it was not "legit Star Wars" even though the film performed well when it was released in theaters. These events occurring after the release of The Last Jedi and more occurring near the release of the newest Star Wars installment Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker prompted Johnson to lash out in this new tweet.

Johnson has been going back and forth on Twitter since the release of The Last Jedi with fans who were angry about how he treated the film and the franchise as a whole. This vocal group of fans has not been kind and Johnson's responses have tried to point out the flaws in their arguments. The shadow Pokemon is a poison type and can be speculated to be his response to the fans that have tried to have a "discourse" with him regarding the film. The discourse with fans that spiraled away from polite and constructive criticisms inspired some of the elements of Johnson's new movie Knives Out which is performing quite well and has a high score on Rotten Tomatoes.

On Twitter, many of the responses have been positive towards Johnson with a few of them being on the negative side, criticizing Johnson's ability to converse with fans. Other Twitter users joined in on the fun with Johnson sending in screenshots of their shadily named Pokemon in Pokemon GO that do not target the Star Wars fandom.

Star Wars The Last Jedi now available on DVD, Blu-Ray, Disney+, and Netflix.
