May is a month for all Star Wars fans to rejoice. Star Wars Day (May 4) is right around the corner, Obi-Wan Kenobi releases on Disney Plus later this month, and the Star Wars Celebration is also expected to reveal Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2. One thing fans won’t likely learn anything about, but many will be thinking of, is the Knights of the Old Republic Remake.

WARNING: Potential Spoilers Ahead for Knights of the Old RepublicThe only thing shown so far for Knights of the Old Republic’s Remake is a brief teaser of Revan, and it’s likely to be a long time before more is learned. Between lightsaber combat, visuals, and other elements, it stands to reason that the KOTOR Remake has a lot of work in maintaining the spirit of the original in this updated version. Fans have speculated about changes since the reveal, but one thing it’ll almost certainly do is make the Sith Lords all the more terrifying.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake – The Power of Darth Malak

Darth Reval and Darth Malak in Knights of the Old Republic

If there’s one safe bet in terms of a remake, it’s that the Knights of the Old Republic Remake will leverage the power of the PS5 (and later on XSX) to make the Galaxy far, far away all the more beautiful. This particularly bodes well for the main antagonist, Darth Malak. It’ll be interesting to see how the game handles Revan’s Dark Side, of course, but Malak will be front and center. He’s a powerful Sith Lord, but that raw power is hard to translate with its graphics. It was more assumed than punched in.

He might pale in comparison to Revan, but then again, everyone does. Darth Malak was no slouch. After he betrayed Revan, he demolished territory after territory, destroyed Taris, crushed the Jedi on Dantooine, took his own apprentice, and even corrupted Bastila Shan—a powerful Jedi. It was certainly no easy feat. He wasn’t even scared of Revan, which is evident when he reveals Revan’s true identity to them.

Obviously, he was defeated no matter if Revan returned to the Dark Side or remained a Redeemed Jedi. But in the new game, Malak’s presence should be all-powerful and domineering. He has the potential to be up there, in terms of design, alongside villains like Darth Maul, Darth Vader, and so many more, should Aspyr make sure his character model captures the raw power and hatred that defined the Sith Lord.

Knights of the Old Republic is in development for PS5.
