Fans of the Nintendo Switch re-release for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 are understandably upset over the recent news about the game's planned Restored Content DLC. Knights of the Old Republic 2 was originally developed by Obsidian, but the port has been handled by Aspyr. The Knights of the Old Republic series is one of the most celebrated in the long list of Star Wars video games. It makes sense that the series has spanned generations, from its original release on the Xbox back in the early '00s to the recent Nintendo Switch ports. The Switch port of Knights of the Old Republic 2 came with a promise, though, and fans recently discovered that it's now not going to be delivered upon.RELATED:Rumor: Sony Dealt A Major Blow to KOTOR 3 ChancesAspyr is the studio responsible for many of the classic Star Wars games getting ports to modern consoles, including the Switch version for Knights of the Old Republic 2. A recent tweet from the studio reveals that the Restored Content DLC has been canceled for the Switch with no plans of ever renewing it for a future release. This news has been met with wide backlash from fans who own the Switch release, many calling for refunds as this DLC had been promised prior to KOTOR 2's launch and was a major selling point.

The Restored Content DLC began as a fan mod for KOTOR 2's initial PC release back in 2004. There were several missions and dialog options, among other things, that were cut from the final release of the game by Obsidian, which led to the game feeling a little rushed upon release. The mod made the game feel whole, however, and its inclusion in the Switch port felt necessary for many fans who sought to experience the full game as it was intended. Aspyr initially promised to deliver on that content showing up in the game eventually but in an effort to ease the disappointing news, gamers who bought KOTOR 2 on Switch can get one of Aspyr's other Star Wars Switch ports for free.

This is another in a string of signs that Aspyr is in a rough place as a studio right now. Last year, the developer was pushed out of working on the much-hyped Knights of the Old Republic remake in favor of Saber Interactive. Several Aspyr developers were fired from that project, and it's possible that the studio hasn't been able to fully recover since, leaving the Restored Content DLC as collateral damage. In its wake are disappointed fans and a classic Star Wars game left incomplete.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 is available now on Mobile, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
