Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a brand-new, $70 release, but it will almost certainly come to subscription services at some point down the line, and how EA handled the original could reveal how it handles the sequel. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has earned mostly positive reviews so far and has been hailed as one of 2023's best new game releases, even if its launch hasn't been quite as smooth as some might hope.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has suffered from some performance problems, particularly when it comes to the PC port of the game. Respawn has already issued a patch to address some of the bigger issues with the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PC port, but there is still work to be done. Some Star Wars fans may decide to hold off on getting the game until a later date when all its problems have been addressed, or it comes down to price. Others still will be able to resist buying Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at all and wait patiently for its debut on Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus.

There is no guarantee that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will ever come to Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus, but that seems highly unlikely. After all, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is currently available to play through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and it was also one of the free PS Plus games for January 2023. One has to imagine that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor coming to Game Pass and/or PS Plus is a matter of when, not if.

Will Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Be on Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus?

Playing the game with everything already unlocked is the ultimate Jedi power fantasy

EA has not announced plans to bring Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus at the time of this writing, but chances are good that the game will eventually hit one or both services. As it pertains to Game Pass, it's unlikely that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will come to the vanilla version of the subscription service, but there is a virtual guarantee that it will eventually come to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier of the service.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, for the uninitiated, is the most expensive version of Xbox Game Pass currently available. Priced at $14.99, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate makes sure subscribers get their money's worth. With an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, subscribers get access to not only everything that comes with vanilla Game Pass, but they also get access to the PC Game Pass library, exclusive perks, and all the benefits associated with Xbox Live Gold. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate practically pays for itself if one games on Xbox consoles regularly, and as long as someone is good about regularly completing Microsoft Rewards tasks, they can basically get it for free indefinitely.

One of the exclusive perks associated with the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier of the Game Pass subscription is access to the EA Play library of games. EA Play is EA's equivalent of Xbox Game Pass or PS Plus. In exchange for a fee, gamers get free trials for brand-new EA games and access to the company's large library of titles. EA brings practically all its games to EA Play, even its biggest titles. For example, EA brings its big sports game releases to EA Play about six months or so after they first hit store shelves, though the timeline isn't as consistent with its non-sports games.

One only has to look at when EA brought Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to EA Play/Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to have an idea of when Star Wars Jedi: Survivor might do the same. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was added to EA Play/Xbox Game Pass Ultimate about one year after its initial release. Assuming Star Wars Jedi: Survivor follows a similar pattern, fans can count on the game joining the subscription services around this time next year. It's possible it will happen in April 2024, but a more opportune date seems like it would be May 4, 2024, as that day is already closely associated with the Star Wars brand.

As for when Star Wars Jedi: Survivor might come to PS Plus, that's a bit more complicated. EA Play is available on PlayStation, but it's not bundled with PS Plus. PlayStation gamers could sign up for EA Play and get access to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor the same day Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers do, but it's also possible the game will be added to the PS Plus Extra tier at some point down the line. Alternatively, there's also a chance that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will eventually be one of the monthly free PS Plus games, but fans will likely have to wait a lot longer for that to happen.

Once again using the original game as an example, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order wasn't a free PS Plus game until January 2023, four years after its initial release date. The game was likely added to the lineup as a means of promoting Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, so fans may potentially see the sequel hit the monthly free PS Plus games in the same timeframe or around the time the third game comes out, assuming such a project comes to fruition.

For now, the only way to play Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is by buying it. Luckily, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has already been discounted, and more discounts are likely coming in the future, so fans still don't necessarily have to pay full price to experience Cal Kestis' latest adventure.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
