Respawn Entertainment shocked the world with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, delivering a single-player Star Wars experience that excelled in both gameplay and story. With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Respawn took the foundation it established with Fallen Order and built on it with new features and an even richer story. Players got to see Cal Kestis grow from the traumatized boy he was in Fallen Order into a capable Jedi Knight, taking on the Empire and other new foes with conviction. The suite of new lightsaber and Force abilities also helped make Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a thrilling power trip.

By the time the credits roll on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, it's clear the status quo for Cal and his compatriots has been considerably altered. Cal alone has gone through unspeakable betrayal at the hands of someone he trusted with his life, triggering a reliance on the dark side of the Force and uncertainty for his future. That uncertainty permeates throughout the end of Survivor, as in true Empire Strikes Back fashion, this second installment leaves many of the protagonists in a worse state than they were found in. Whenever a follow-up to Jedi: Survivor comes around, it will have a few loose threads to address.

Cal Kestis' Continued Struggles With The Dark Side

Jedi: Fallen Order sowed the seeds of Cal's tenuous relationship with the dark side of the Force, and Jedi: Survivor saw those seeds bloom to the surprise of many. In the latter half of the game, Cal is put in a situation where he's compelled to embrace the dark side, unlocking a new ability in which he flies into a rage, slowing down time and causing massive damage. The next Star Wars Jedi game will likely dive even deeper into this conflict, showing Cal's struggle between following the teachings of the Jedi, and succumbing to the temptations of the dark side.

Guiding Kata Akuna

Star Wars Jedi Survivor Kata and Crew

Late into Jedi: Survivor's story, it's revealed that Bode Akuna is a traitor who has been working with the Empire. His motivation behind this treachery is to protect his daughter Kata, but when Bode is killed in Survivor's final boss battle, Kata is left in the hands of Cal, Merrin, and the Mantis crew. Considering Bode was a former Jedi, Kata will likely be Force-sensitive, and it would be no surprise if the emotional center of Survivor's follow-up was Cal trying to take care of her. This plot line could also play well off of Cal's own journey with the dark side, as he tries to help someone while also trying to help himself.

Tanalorr & The Hidden Path

Traveling to Tanalorr in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

One of the main goals for Cal and the Mantis crew in Jedi: Survivor was to find the mysterious planet of Tanalorr. This planet is hidden away from the Empire and could be used as a safe haven for the Hidden Path, a network of Jedi and other enemies of the Empire looking for refuge. Cal's crew ultimately finds Tanalorr and secures it for their own use, but Jedi: Survivor doesn't go so far as to show the planet being used as shelter. The next Star Wars Jedi game could jump forward in time and show how Cal has helped the Hidden Path, turning Tanalorr into the haven his master Cere hoped it would be.

The Star Wars Jedi series has provided some of the best games the Star Wars franchise has ever seen, and hopes are certainly high for the next title. Jedi: Survivor showed the main cast at some of their highest and lowest points, and now it's up to the threequel to wrap things up and put a bow on the whole affair. Whether that means focusing heavily on Kata Akuna or exploring Cal Kestis' temptations to the dark side, Respawn Entertainment has some hefty expectations ahead of it.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
