It took longer than it probably should have for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to come out. The original, Star Wars Jedi; Fallen Order, was released in 2019 for the last generation of consoles. Four years later, there are new consoles in town, and this is one of the first few new games in 2023 that isn’t cross-platform.

Players can be assured then that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor puts these new consoles to the test and evolves the concepts from the original further. That doesn’t mean the game and overall series can’t be improved a little. From gameplay tweaks to story beats, these are some things that would be cool to see in a third game starring Cal or even a spinoff.

7 Co-Op

Fighting a boss in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor came close to implementing a co-op idea by virtue of a new mechanic. Players were joined by two AI companions that sporadically appeared throughout the adventure. The first was Bode, a newcomer to the game franchise. Bode is a mercenary that sports twin Blasters, a jetpack, and plenty of bombs akin to a Mandalorian bounty hunter.

Merrin is the other AI partner, the Nightsister from the first game, who specializes in bizarre Force magic. It would have been cool to see more AI companions in the game or have them appear more often. It would have been even cooler if a second player could have taken control of them, which is a good idea for the sequel.

6 More RPG Elements

Fighting Battle Droids in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

This game edges the line into RPG town. Players can build up a meter by defeating enemies like Stormtroopers or Battle Droids, which then form into skill points. Players can then spend these skill points in various skill trees to strengthen Cal’s stats or give him new moves.

The game could go a lot further with the RPG elements in the sequel, though. There could be a full-on experience gain wherein each level-up, Cal would boost various traits. He could equip armor, accessories, or craft Lightsaber parts to boost stats too. There could even be broader dialogue trees akin to past games in this series, like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

5 One Planet, One Open-World

Traveling to Tanalorr in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

The first game was a more linear affair with some branching paths akin to a Metroidvania. That Metroidvania mentality returns in the sequel, but the areas are much bigger to help create a semi-open world to explore on each planet. It’s a decent step up from the past, but the third game could do so much more.

The Metroidvania elements should be ditched in favor of creating a true open-world game. The story sets itself up to take place on one planet in the third game, which would make crafting an open-world experience easier. If the game will take place on one planet, then there should be more vehicles. The mounts were a nice addition to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but speeder bikes would also be great.

4 The God Of War Ragnarok Effect

Bode and Kata in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

The gap between Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is five years. A lot takes place in that time period, and lost fans can catch up with the novel Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars. Will the third game have as big of a time skip, or will it be even longer?

Bode turns out to be a villain in the game, leaving his daughter Kata an orphan in the care of Cal. He could raise her to become a Jedi/father figure which could mirror the gameplay mechanics of the newest God of War games. If enough time passes, Kata could even be playable like Atreus, and maybe even Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could top that idea by making the game co-op, as previously mentioned.

3 A Player Created Hero

Cal and BD-1 in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

Star Wars Jedi: The New Order could be a great name for the third and final game in this trilogy. It is the reverse of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and signifies Cal establishing peace on the newfound planet of Tanalorr. Fans may be wondering how a new Jedi order could be assembled and not have that affect the original or new Star Wars trilogies.

The game wouldn’t have to go into an alternate dimension as Tanalorr is within a hidden gap of space. If this portal gets sealed up, that would explain Cal and other Jedi not participating in any Empire rebellions. Instead of making this potential third installment about Cal and Kata, players could create a character akin to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Cal would step aside as the playable character in favor of becoming the teacher akin to Cere.

2 Explore The Nightsisters

Merrin in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

EA and Respawn Entertainment don’t have to make a straight third game next to end this trilogy. They could make a spinoff to tide fans over until the epic conclusion. One route they could take would be to follow Merrin or another Nightsister. She was one of the best parts of the first game and the sequel.

Her magic is unlike anything fans had seen before in a game. Jedi are like psychic samurai, but Nightsisters are straight-up mages, able to do a lot more with the mystic forces of the universe. The more this franchise explores this sisterhood of space witches, the better.

1 Star Wars Jedi: The Old Republic

Dagan Gera in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

Another potential spinoff would be to go back to the Old Republic era of the timeline. It has been done before with two memorable RPGs on Xbox, and then there was the MMO as well. It’s high time this era was visited again. What better way to do it than to tie it into the Star Wars Jedi sub-series? Even a High Republic game would be great and give the developers more to work with. They could tie it into the fall of Dagan.

Creating a story within the timeframe between Star Wars Episode 3 and Episode 4 could not have been easy, but Respawn has managed. Now, imagine what they could do with a game with the combat style of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the RPG elements of Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic. That game has already been mentioned several times over, but it’s an idea that deserves repeating.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was released on April 28, 2023, and is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
