Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Koboh is looking more expansive with each new piece of gameplay footage that releases for it, and it is becoming clearer that Koboh will be a planet that players likely make the most trips back-and-forth to. It will be exciting to see how many more secrets are still being withheld on Koboh and other planets that Cal Kestis travels to, especially now that Coruscant has been revealed as a destination in Survivor. Thanks to the latest gameplay shown, Survivor has also revealed that it will feature a boss fight against a fearsome Rancor.

It looks like this boss appears on Koboh as a threat players encounter while exploring, and that makes exploration on these wider, semi-open-world planets much more intriguing. The Rancor is an iconic creature from Star Wars, and it is not too surprising to see it in the Fallen Order sequel since Survivor does seem to be leaning more toward nostalgic iconography from the franchise. If it wanted to take this nostalgia a step further, though, it should introduce more boss fights with creatures from Star Wars’ second prequel movie, Attack of the Clones.

Jedi: Survivor’s Rancor is the Perfect Punch of Original Trilogy Nostalgia

Battle droids appearing in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is wonderful because it gives the sequel a greater depth of enemy variety. Fallen Order features a ton of stormtroopers, and while they may still be reprised in the sequel, it is fantastic that other enemies have been considered.

Battle droids in particular are a great homage to the prequel trilogy in Star Wars, which makes sense because the Star Wars Jedi franchise takes place after Star Wars’ third prequel installment, Revenge of the Sith. The Rancor, however, is a neat way to tie Respawn’s action-adventure franchise into Star Wars’ original trilogy, but particularly Return of the Jedi.

This is not to say that every creature from the original trilogy is confirmed for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but it opens the possibility for what fauna and beasts could appear now. It is likely that other iconic creatures will show up, and having them appear as intermittent bosses is a phenomenal way of briefly including them. Likewise, the potential for creatures to appear from the prequel trilogy should be even more apparent.

Jedi: Survivor Can Pay Homage to the Prequels with an Acklay, Reek, or Nexu

Attack of the Clones features a memorable sequence where Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Padme Amidala are held captive in Geonosis’ Petranaki arena. Here, the trio is chained individually to tall posts, and are offered up to an acklay, a reek, and a nexu.

Each character takes on one of these creatures in the coliseum before a swarm of Jedi and battle droids flood it, and having one or more of these creatures would make for great boss fights in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Nexus could appear as mini-bosses players come across randomly on Koboh, for example, or a cavern could house a single, massive acklay.

Fallen Order had a memorable boss fight against the gargantuan Gorgara, and Survivor would do well to include more boss fights against enormous creatures iconic to the expansive Star Wars IP. Of course, seeing characters such as Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’s Starkiller in Survivor would be a terrific surprise, and many fans hope to see legacy characters returning for the Star Wars Jedi franchise, but creatures could have the same nostalgic effect without needing to explain anyone’s reprisal in the lore.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches on April 28, 2023, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
