Gamers who buy a physical copy of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may be required to download additional data to play the game. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches on April 28, and it adds some notable features to the blueprint established in 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

It was recently confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will have a massive file size, as the PC version of the game is said to take 155 GB. The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions have similarly large storage requirements, taking 147.577 GB and 139.08 GB of space respectively. On the other hand, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor reportedly needs just 44 GB on Xbox Series S, marking a difference of almost 100 GB between it and the Xbox Series X version. Now, it looks like the physical version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will also require users to download some amount of data.

A Reddit user named NightwingXII has shared an image of physical copies of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on PS5 and Xbox Series X, with the words “Download Required” written in the bottom left. The source of this image appears to be Mighty Ape, a company in New Zealand, and fans can also see boxes of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in the background. At the time of this writing, the amount of data users will need to download is unclear, so fans will have to wait for more information to come out around launch day.

Still, it looks like gamers who were hoping to avoid the massive download by purchasing a physical copy of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may be out of luck. Players who do end up pre-ordering the digital version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor can pre-load the game before it comes out, allowing them to play at midnight local time on PS5 or Xbox Series X.

Some users in the comments section state that most video games have a day-one patch, claiming it to be the same as this download. However, as pointed out by other players, it’s possible to launch a game without the day-one patch installed, which doesn’t seem to be true in this case. These day-one patches usually fix additional bugs and improve the overall performance, but they are ultimately optional for offline titles, as it seems like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will require players to download a chunk of the game before they can start playing.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches on April 28, 2023, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
