Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is one of many Soulslike games, but it puts its own spin on the genre and brings it into the Star Wars universe in its way. Perhaps it's best to describe the game as a Souls-lite, as while the inspiration is there, there are other elements that make it distinct from the genre. It's uncertain yet how Star Wars Jedi: Survivor refines, iterates, or innovates upon this gameplay, but it does seem Cal Kestis will receive a blaster alongside his lightsaber. If that's the case, it would be perfect if Respawn implemented it similarly to Bloodborne's firearms.

It should be noted that this isn't confirmed, albeit it does seem likely. However, fans aren't likely to know for sure for a couple of months. A reliable insider recently said EA's plan for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is to have a shorter marketing cycle, with that beginning in December ahead of its early 2023 release date. The jury is out then about the blaster, but it could be an interesting new feature.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - Why Cal Kestis May Have a Blaster

Hasbro revealed a new toy line for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, and it didn't take fans long to realize that a blaster sits on Kestis' hip. The first game's combat was solely focused on lightsaber duels and the use of Force Powers, so this could suggest a third avenue for combat. It would be awkward, however, to use a blaster instead of a lightsaber in traditional combat (Jedi is in the title, after all). It's unlikely to be a mistake on Hasbro's behalf, although it's not impossible this is decorative. The most likely situation out of all possibilities is that Cal Kestis will wield a blaster to some degree in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

How a Blaster Could Make Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a Better Soulsborne-Like

Using a Lightsaber and a blaster is not something common in the Star Wars universe, with Ezra's modified lightsaber being something unique at the time. It's clear that Kestis is wielding two different weapons, however, but this should be tied into its lightsaber gameplay instead of separated. Using a gun in Bloodborne at the right time allowed players to stun an enemy and open them up for punishment, and while players could just fire their firearm at enemies, it was not as effective as primary weapons in Bloodborne. The same should apply to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as not only is there any reason to choose a gun over an elegant weapon of a more civilized age, but blasters can canonically be set to stun.

Allowing Kestis to stun enemies with his blaster could change how he approaches combat, while retaining the lightsaber itself for blocks and deflects. Perhaps it'll work off of some stun meter too and have a handful of features, but it's easy to see how a properly timed blaster shot, combined with a nice combo from a lightsaber, could make for improved combat in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Not to mention, if there were any special finishes utilizing both, that makes Cal Kestis an even more interesting Jedi. Fans have to wait for now, and a potential blaster in gameplay is just one of many reasons.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is expected to launch in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
