Given the recent reception of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, with PC users noticing poor performance even on high-end systems, a modder has managed to double the game's FPS using DLSS upscaling technology. From 2003's Knights of the Old Republic to the original Battlefront, there have been some excellent Star Wars titles that have come about over the decades, showing that studios and the fan base are ever wanting more from George Lucas' sci-fi universe.
However, the most recent release in the franchise has been leaving a sour taste in people's mouths, especially on PC. Almost immediately upon release, players began to review bomb Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, citing the game's inability to run well, even on computers that were utilizing Nvidia 3000 or even 4000 series graphics cards. Performance issues aside, the game has been a pretty big hit with critics and currently has aggregate Metacritic scores of 86 and 87 on PS5 and Xbox Series, respectively. However, for those who would like the game to run better on PC, there may be a solution.
As spotted by PC Gamer, YouTuber PureDark recently uploaded a brief video of them playing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. When looking at the metrics on the side of the footage, it can be seen that the game is struggling to maintain an FPS in the high 40s. However, the player then opens up a menu and activates DLSS Frame Generation, a tool utilized in upscaling. Immediately, viewers see the framerate jump to the mid-90s, resulting in much smoother performance. Unfortunately, PureDark doesn't know whether they'll release this mod, saying that it's currently "for showcasing." Having said that, someone will likely come along and make it available for all to use.
For those who don't know, DLSS is Nvidia's own upscaling algorithm. In a nutshell, Deep Learning Super Sampling works by redrawing the pixels on screen to an artificially higher resolution. This means games can run at high res, such as 1440p, without putting additional strain on the system's hardware. The most recent version of this technology is DLSS 3, which released towards the end of 2022.
As for the game itself, Jedi Survivor is still more popular than Star Wars:Fallen Order, its predecessor which came out in 2019, despite the backlash from the community. At the time of writing, the former has "Mixed" reviews on Steam, which is up from "Mostly Negative," so it seems more people are at least starting to enjoy the game, even if it isn't performing as well as it should be.
