The lightsaber customization in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is widely considered to be one of its best, most complete features, as a player showcases its potential by recreating Cal Kestis' Padawan blade. Being able to construct one's lightsaber has been a popular fantasy in the minds of Star Wars fans for a long time, and video games such as Jedi Academy or Knights of the Old Republic have explored the concept to varying degrees. However, when Jedi: Fallen Order came out in 2019, it pushed the envelope even further by allowing players to customize Cal's lightsaber in a modular way – mixing and matching different switches, sleeves, and emitters to create their perfect weapon.
The lightsaber parts in Jedi: Fallen Order were scattered across the galaxy as collectibles for Cal and BD-1 to find, and the lightsaber parts in Jedi: Survivor rather expectedly follow in its footsteps. However, where the game elevates the feature compared to its predecessor lies in the degree of customization offered to the player. Not only can Jedi: Survivor players customize their own blaster, or wield a cross-guard blade inspired by Kylo Ren, but they can separately choose materials and colors for their weapon across several dye channels, and even customize the angle of their cross-guard vents.
Whenever they weren't being plagued by performance issues in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, players were either spending countless hours adventuring across the sprawling landscapes of Jedha and Koboh, or meticulously designing the lightsaber of their dreams. From creative takes on the High Republic style, to Wookiee-inspired wooden hilts, fans of the Star Wars Jedi franchise flocked to social media to share their custom designs, and such was the case with Scrubaati, who posted their recreation of Cal's original lightsaber on the official subreddit of the game.
The hilt uses the Justice pommel, Diligence grip, Serenity switch, and Eno Cordova's emitter to complete the look. Hidden across Jedi Survivor's larger planets, the grip can be found in the third chest of Koboh's Forest Array area, while the switch and pommel can be found on Jedha. The design is made strictly for the single-bladed lightsaber, but thanks to the modularity of the system, players can technically make any design work for all five lightsaber stances.
Though many find Jedi: Survivor to be a worthy sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, technical issues at launch have blemished an otherwise enjoyable game. The performance issues have done little to hamper Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's popularity, but they have highlighted an industry-wide issue with releasing poorly-optimized games on the PC. While Respawn has released an important Jedi: Survivor patch on PC, it may take a few more builds until all the issues are properly addressed.
