  • The upper echelon of boss battles in Jedi: Survivor are visually spectacular and highly challenging, especially the final fight with Dagan Gera and the Darth Vader boss battle.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor had some massive expectations in front of it when it was released last spring. Much like The Empire Strikes Back following up the first Star Wars movie, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was in the unenviable position of following up the smash-hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Luckily for fans of Respawn Entertainment's action-adventure take on the franchise, Jedi: Survivor succeeded in expanding on Fallen Order's foundation with deeper combat mechanics, enhanced exploration, and a thrilling narrative.

One of the hallmarks of Jedi: Fallen Order was its challenging boss battles. From the insufferable Oggdo Bogdo to the relentless Trilla Suduri, these boss battles exemplified Fallen Order's Soulslike influence. This influence naturally carried over into Jedi: Survivor, where players had the opportunity to face even more boss battles with an even wider range of difficulty. Not all of these boss battles are created equal, however, with many of them serving as standouts while others can be easily forgotten by the time the credits roll.

S Tier Jedi: Survivor Boss Battles Explained

The upper echelon of boss battles in Jedi: Survivor have two things in common: visual spectacle and a high level of difficulty. Each of these four fights shines in those categories, especially the third and final fight with Dagan Gera, which features everything from Force illusions to unpredictable attacks from the fallen High Republic-era Jedi. Survivor's Darth Vader boss battle also stands out thanks to Respawn's ability to convey the Dark Lord of the Sith's overwhelming strength. Bode Akuna's final battle is fittingly impressive as well, as it caps off Cal Kestis' harrowing mission to reach Tanalorr.

A Tier Jedi: Survivor Boss Battles Explained

These boss battles may fall just short of being the very best Jedi: Survivor has to offer, but they're nonetheless excellent examples of Respawn's game design. Bode Akuna's first boss battle is arguably the most thrilling among this group due to how unexpected it is. Not only did Cal's companion for much of the game betray him and his other allies, but it's revealed that he too is a Jedi who survived Order 66. This, combined with Bode's unorthodox fighting style, puts it firmly within A tier along with Survivor's similarly impressive boss battles.

B Tier Jedi: Survivor Boss Battles Explained

Although not all Jedi: Survivor boss battles carry the same scale, many of them still offer a considerable challenge. The Golden Skriton and Mire Terror are prime examples of Survivor's persistent difficulty level, serving as some of its most noteworthy Legendary Beasts. Some of Survivor's more unexpected boss battles fit into this category as well, with Dagan Gera's first boss battle providing a thrilling introduction to the character, and Caij adding a final punctuation to Survivor's many bounty hunter battles. The Boba Fett cameo that follows Caij's boss battle is a pleasant cherry on top as well.

C Tier Jedi: Survivor Boss Battles Explained

Where some of Jedi: Survivor's boss battles begin to drop off in quality is in those that provide less of a grand battle, and more of a slight roadblock to overcome. Many of these boss battles are also optional, meaning they don't carry the same narrative weight as those essential to the story. Nevertheless, bosses like the Rancor provide a quick thrill in the time it takes players to wear out its health bar. Rick the Door Technician also stands out as a boss battle that is by no means meant to be difficult but benefits from being highly comedic as a result.

  • K-405
  • Meyen Corr
  • Raz
  • Reprogrammed Magnaguard

  • Zeik

D Tier Jedi: Survivor Boss Battles Explained

Many of Jedi: Survivor's less memorable boss battles essentially introduce what later become common enemy types. From the K-405 security droid to the Reprogrammed Magnaguard, these fights are a kind of tutorial for players before they take on certain enemy types more regularly. Survivor's AT-ST is a boss battle that Fallen Order fans should be familiar with, as its attacks are nearly identical to the AT-ST fight in Jedi's first entry. These bosses are certainly no Darth Vader, but they still offer a valuable challenge to players as they progress through Cal Kestis' Star Wars journey.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was an expansion on Fallen Order in nearly every sense of the word. Its boss battles are perhaps the greatest example of that, as they offer some of the most challenging combat ever found in a Star Wars game. Hopes are high that the next Star Wars: Jedi game can find similar success with its boss battles, perhaps with a duel that finally pits Cal against Darth Vader. Whatever Respawn has in store, it will likely offer the same combination of Soulslike influence and Star Wars flair that has made the Jedi series so popular up to this point.
