The Star Wars series has some of the most quotable lines in cinema history. A lot of them are misinterpreted such as Darth Vader saying “Luke, I am your father” when he actually says “No, I am your father.” Does it really matter what fans quote back to other fans?
In this case, not really because the sentiment is the same. So, does Star Wars Jedi: Survivor follow this franchise’s history and offer some fun lines along with some deep thoughts? The answer is absolutely yes, so let’s get down to naming just a few of the best.
There will be spoilers for the game’s main story.
8 “May The Force Be With You.”
It’s hard not to get chills whenever a character in this series says “May the Force be with you.” Cal is the first one to say it in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and he does so as he departs from Bode after escaping his imprisonment on Coruscant.
At the time, it seems odd that Bode doesn’t respond positively to the message but players could theorize most people in this universe don’t know how to react to that line after the Empire zapped all of the Jedi out of existence. By the end, Bode’s reaction to this line is more obvious since it is revealed he is a dark Jedi and thus has a weird relationship with the Force.
7 “Do You Trust Me?”
Merrin says this line to Cal when that giant mechanical drill is about to kill them on Jedah. Is it a reference to Aladdin, the part where Aladdin asks Jasmine to trust him on the Magic Carpet? Disney owns a lot of properties right now, so it would make sense that they would encourage either EA or Respawn Entertainment to insert this line as an Easter Egg.
It’s not like Aladdin was the first to do it, but it definitely feels like a callback. Cal makes a reference to this moment later on too when he asks Greez to trust him in the Abyss.
6 “I Heard You.”
Rayvis encounters Cal multiple times in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but eventually the two duke it out in one of the hardest boss fights in the game on the Shattered Moon. Upon entering the room, Cal asks a few questions, interrupting Rayvis’ monologue about honor. He lets Cal know he hears him but also demonstrates that he doesn’t care.
At this point, Rayvis is in full villain dialogue mode and wants to get his grievances out of the way. It’s a great moment for a complicated character that is honor bound to Dagan and holds no ill will toward Cal or the Jedi Order.
5 “You’re Not Free Dagan, You’re Alone.”
Not long after the fight with Rayvis, Cal, and Bode have their final confrontation with Dagan. Even with Bode along, this is also one of the harder fights in the game. Before the fight opens up, Cal says this line to Dagan after Dagan discusses his sickness with the Jedi Order. He may think he has power without anyone to hold him back, but Cal corrects Dagan.
He is powerless because he is alone. It’s a sentiment straight out of the Kingdom Hearts series wherein the motto for Sora is usually friends being his power. Cal doesn’t say anything quite as corny but it’s still true to some degree and it is what he has over Dagan.
4 “I’ve Been Waiting.”
Darth Vader was a bigger part of the first game along with his Inquisitors. After the boss fight in that game, fans probably felt that was going to be it for this sub-series of games. They would be wrong, however, as players get to fight Darth Vader again in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
This time they get to play as Cere right before Darth Vader strikes her down. This time, Cere has given up her fear. Her line right before this, “I’ve been waiting” is badass as it shows this Jedi is in it to win it.
3 “You’re Not The Only One Who Survived.”
What does a name like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor mean? It was a mystery leading up to the game’s release. One interpretation could be that Cal is the surviving Jedi when all others died from Order 66. Once Cal awakens Dagan from the Bacta Tank, fans may think he is the titular survivor.
All of those guesses are correct interpretations of the title. However, there is a final survivor, Bode, and he says this line to Cal right after he reveals his alignment with the Force. A red Lightsaber appears and another epic boss fight begins in a shocking twist of fate for Cal.
2 “Get Ready To Die, Aaaaah!”
Rick, The Door Technician is a joke of a boss that appears in the Empire’s stronghold where Bode is hiding. After opening a door, the name appears as well as the health bar. This Stormtrooper yells this line out as he charges at Cal. No matter what Lightsaber stance players are in, Cal will destroy him in a single hit.
Rick is practically the Leroy Jenkins of the Star Wars universe now which is a shame for him. Stormtroopers often get the brunt of the jokes in these games.
1 “What Bode Did, That’s On Him, That’s Not On You.”
Bode’s betrayal hits everyone hard. Cal lost two of his Jedi masters, and Greez and Merrin lost trusted allies. Of the three, Greez seems to be the most upset because he was close to Cere. He knows the hand they are dealt with in life is bad but he makes a point in explaining one has to know how to use the cards.
Bode played dirty and it is nobody’s fault but his own. It’s a powerful speech from one of the funnier characters in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, proving Greez has range.
