Star Wars has come a long way from the original concept of Jedi and Sith introduced in 1977. With over 45 years of development on the franchise, what once was a blue or red lightsaber to symbolize good and evil has become much, much more.

Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was one of the first games to fully utilize most lightsaber colors that we have seen in both Star Wars canon and Legends. EA has announced Fallen Order's sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and the follow-up game will presumably echo the variety of weapons as its predecessor.

What makes lightsabers so unique isn’t just the fun glowing laser sword, but the power from within, and the meaning behind their Kyber Crystals.

9 Orange

Not much is known about orange lightsabers, as in canon, only Cal Kestis has been seen to wield one, and that is if the player so chooses to. As for Legends, the knowledge of orange sabers is still pretty limited, but we see that some characters like Kyle Katarn from the Jedi Knight game series wield one. Although, his saber was made by the Dark Jedi Yun.

Through color theory, it is worth noting that orange represents warmth and energy. In the color wheel, orange falls between yellow and red, so perhaps the saber color is for force-sensitive beings more neutral to Sith and Jedi.

Although the orange Kyber Crystal was exclusive as a pre-order bonus, it is now available for free to all Fallen Order players.

8 Blue

Blue is the most common of the lightsaber colors. Alongside red, it was one of two colors in the Star Wars universe, before the franchise explored alternatives. The blue lightsaber is representative of a Jedi Guardian, a Jedi who is more physical with the force than others.

Blue is the starting color of Fallen Order’s protagonist, Cal Kestis, and the color itself can symbolize important traits of the Jedi code: stability, loyalty, and trust. Being one with your emotions and senses is key to being a Jedi.

The blue Kyber Crystal is available in Fallen Order as Cal's default lightsaber color.

7 Green

As well as blue lightsabers, greens are also rather common, if not slightly less so. The green lightsaber first appeared in Return of the Jedi and was revealed as Luke Skywalker’s new saber, shocking fans at what was possible with their colors. These colors are more reserved for the diplomatic Jedi, The Jedi Consular. These are Jedi that strike the dark side at its heart.

With green representing intelligence, nature, and growth, this blade color is rather fitting for a Jedi who wishes to see a peaceful galaxy, one that doesn’t necessarily need heavy usage of a lightsaber.

The green Kyber Crystal is available to the player at the start of Fallen Order as they first go to the lightsaber workbench.

6 Indigo

Indigo is a color, like cyan, that can be rather difficult to distinguish between blue and purple. Indigo is between the two, and the color wheel suggests it represents spirituality, wisdom, and intuition. It could also represent the balance between both blue and purple saber wielders, like Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi (who now has a Disney Plus series).

Strangely, indigo is the only color in Fallen Order which has no past in both Star Wars canon and Legends. Cal Kestis could well be the only character in Star Wars history to canonically wield an indigo lightsaber.

Fallen Order players can find the indigo Kyber Crystal on the planet Ilum.

5 Yellow

Yellow lightsabers made their canon appearance in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the popular animated series. The color has been prominent in games before, like Star Wars: The Old Republic. The yellow blade is reserved for Jedi Sentinels, those that have mastered the balance between combat and scholarly pursuits. The color represents warmth and optimism.

This extremely rare color is usually for those who have achieved a change in identity, such as Rey at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, or Jedi who wish to be Temple guards.

In Fallen Order, players can discover the yellow Kyber Crystal on Ilum.

4 Purple

Thanks to Samuel L. Jackson, purple lightsabers became one of the rarest saber colors to grace the Star Wars canon. Jackson famously wanted the color for his saber, as to spot himself during the fight scene in Attack of the Clones.

Purple is the color between red and blue and can represent the darker side of a powerful Jedi. Other notable users, such as Darth Revan had purple lightsabers. The color is also representative of royalty and power.

In Fallen Order, Cal will obtain the purple Kyber Crystal on the planet Ilum.

3 Cyan

As the between blue and green, cyan could represent calmness and peace. A great, yet rare color for Jedi that is between blue and green, perhaps these wielders have the best of both Jedi and thus why the color is so rare in the first place.

Since the color has not appeared in canon, the only reliance for information is with Legends. Meetra Surik was a Jedi during the OId Republic who wielded such a color.

Like the previous Kyber Crystals, the cyan variant can be found on the planet Ilum.

2 Magenta

Another rare crystal is magenta. This powerful and vibrant color is between purple and pink and can be the representation of femininity, compassion, and harmony. It is a closer hue to red than pink, and can often give the illusion of a dark side wielder.

Most famously in Legends, Mara Jade wielded a magenta lightsaber. Mara Jade was an Emperor’s Hand, later Jedi Master, and wife to Luke Skywalker.

The magenta Kyber Crystal is on Ilum in Fallen Order.

1 Red

Red lightsabers are infamous for their bright crimson and menacing wielder. Most, if not all red lightsaber wielders are those that have succumbed or joined the dark side of the force. Red lightsabers are in Fallen Order aplenty with the Inquisitors and Taron Malicos, all force users that have let go of the Jedi way.

The red lightsaber symbolizes passion, power, and above all else: danger. Once the crystal wielder fills the Kyber crystal with their emotions of hatred and anger, the crystal is bled and left a crimson color.

Fallen Order players will need to complete the game and start New Game Plus to gain access to a red Kyber Crystal. This can then be used to create the red lightsaber.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available on Google Stadia, PC, PS4, SP5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
