After a few years of disappointing releases and a handful of different cancellations, Star Wars video games are in a mostly good place right now. Releases like Star Wars: Squadrons and the continuous revamping of Star Wars Battlefront 2 contributed a fair amount to this resurgence, but no game has created such an impact as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The game allowed players to truly feel the power of the Force for the first time in many years, and it's been rumored that a sequel is in development. If the game is far enough along in its development, EA could leverage one of the biggest Star Wars celebrations for the reveal.

For many years now, Star Wars fans across the globe have celebrated May 4 as "Star Wars Day." The day first started as an informal celebration event by fans online, but ever since Disney purchased the franchise, May 4 has exploded into a day dedicated to Star Wars festivities and announcements. With how much attention the celebration gets, the reveal of any Star Wars project on May 4 is sure to stir up a lot of excitement. It's the perfect opportunity for publicity, making it the perfect time to reveal Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 for those that have been patiently waiting for news.

Past May 4 Reveals and Events

Star Wars May the 4th

If Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 was revealed on May 4, it would be following in the footsteps of many other Star Wars Day festivities. As far as the video game world is concerned, one of the most recent May 4 reveals was last year when the cover art for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was revealed. After its initial reveal at E3 2019, it was certainly a relief for some fans to finally have an idea of what the cover would look like after a year of generic, placeholder art. Right now, not much more is known other than the fact that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been delayed out of Spring 2021.

Video games are by no means the only thing to get big May 4 events, as the Star Wars TV shows have gotten similar attention. The highly anticipated last season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars premiered on May 4. This season finally gave so many fans the ending they had been craving after the series was cancelled in 2013, and watching the first episode was a great way to celebrate Star Wars Day. The franchise seems to be continuing this trend, as the spinoff series to The Clone Wars, Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be premiering on May 4 this year as well.

EA's Star Wars Presence

A May 4 reveal would not only be the perfect chance to capitalize on the festivities of the day, but it could also set the tone for EA's final years with the license. When EA got full exclusivity to the Star Wars license in 2013, many people were skeptical of what the company would do with the franchise. Yes, there would be more Star Wars games, but even before the mess that was the Star Wars Battlefront 2 microtransaction scandal, EA was often criticized by parts of the video game community for its business practices. Battlefront 2 has come a long way, but there's little doubt that JFO took the cake. As such, EA may want to end this contract on a high note, and a May 4 reveal for Jedi: Fallen Order 2 could do just that.

Letting Go of The Past

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Next-Gen Release

Now that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has proven to be a massive success, EA has a second chance to reveal the game properly. Although it would run contrary to its usual EA Play announcements, a May 4 reveal with some kind of trailer or other announcement would get a lot of Star Wars fans excited. It would certainly be better than randomly revealing the game in the middle of EA Play. There's a lot riding on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 for EA, and a proper May 4 reveal would put the game in a pretty good position.

May 4 is a special day for many Star Wars fans, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the biggest Star Wars video game successes of the last few years. Although not much is officially known about the sequel, May 4 would be the perfect opportunity to reveal Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 in one way or another. This is all wishful thinking of course, and it's just as possible that the game is nowhere near ready for that kind of reveal. Star Wars fans will just have to wait for this year's celebration to see if any news on the game comes to light.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
