Disney has been keeping Star Wars front and center despite no theatrical releases this year. With shows like Star Wars: Visions and The Bad Batch, it’s done a good job so far and the current Bring Home the Bounty event has only fueled this. While fans are hoping for a significant announcement from the event in December it’s not likely that they’ll be treated to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 news. EA has already confirmed there’ll be nothing to report from them regarding a Star Wars title until next year, which rules out any announcements for new or established properties, including Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2.
With that in mind, there is plenty that fans can look forward to when thinking about the Jedi: Fallen Order sequel. The first Jedi: Fallen Order game told a great Star Wars story through unique worlds and beautiful Metroidvania-style environments. While Dune’s landscapes should inspire open-world sci-fi gamesStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order already made great strides when it comes to building incredible planets for the players to visit. But the environments in Star Wars only ever make up one part of the story and there’s a lot of potential material for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 to dive into as a sequel.
Jedi That Survived Order 66
The first Jedi: Fallen Order game focused primarily on the fallout of the Great Jedi Purge. This is major in the Star Wars canon and without it, the setup for the original trilogy can’t exist. While a key turning point in the series, and one of the most tragic events in the prequel material, Jedi: Fallen Order was one of the few times that the purge was shown to players in such a raw format. The Revenge of the Sith showed much of it from the perspective of Darth Vader, while Jedi: Fallen Order explored the traumas of the former Jedi Knight Cere Junda and the orphaned Padawan Cal Kestis.
Keeping in touch with these heavy emotions and dealing with the trauma that the Dark Side of the Force’s victory inflicts on the Star Wars universe is likely to remain a key part of Jedi: Fallen Order 2. This means the game will probably need to do one of two things: either continue to follow the growth of Cal Kestis as a Jedi Knight or focus on different members of the Jedi Order that survived the purge.
Several individuals are documented to have escaped the clone forces following the execution of Order 66 and some of them are also high-profile members of the Jedi Order. Jedi Masters and Jedi Council Members Coleman Kcaj and Oppo Rancisis are both presumed to be alive by the Inquisitorious during the reign of the Empire. While some may worry their age by the middle period of the Galactic Empire might be a limiting factor, their stories could still be portrayed in a game. Similarly, there are others whose fates remain unknown, such as Master Yaddle who’s of the same Force-sensitive species as Yoda and Grogu from The Mandalorian.
It’s also worth noting that any Jedi not in direct contact with the clones could have survived the Great Jedi Purge. Ahsoka Tano was aboard a cruiser with a clone battalion and manage to free Captain Rex and survive. Any Jedi of at least her skill level that was on a solo mission or diplomatic journey could have also been able to avoid Order 66. While the Sith did do extensive hunts for these Jedi, it’s clear that even the Empire at full strength was incapable of tracking down all the remaining Jedi after Chancellor Palpatine's conspiracy earned him a complete victory.
Quinlan Vos
There is also the matter of Jedi that fans are more familiar with being relatively absent. While the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will focus on the familiar character Jedi Master Quinlan Vos has been a fan favorite in both Star Wars Canon and Star Wars Legend media without post Republic representation. His journey as a Jedi often took him into grey areas where the lines between the Light and Dark sides of the Force begin to blur. Despite this his overall devotion to the Jedi Order is remarkable and he served the Jedi and the Republic until they both fell. However, his time leading right up to the execution of Order 66 is murky at best and leaves a lot of questions surrounding his ultimate fate.
At the end of the Clone Wars, Quinlan Vos was on Kashyyyk placing him in the proximity of several other characters with significance. First is Master Yoda who fans know survived the Great Jedi Purge and lived in exile up until his death on Dagobah. The second is the Wookie, Chief Tarfful. While he might not be as prominent to many Star Wars fans as Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi, he is important in the story of the first game and had potential as a Wookie companion in Jedi: Fallen Order.
With the knowledge that Chief Tarfful is alive by the time that Cal and the Mantis crew begin to organize with the resistance, Quinlan Vos may have also been able to evade capture or execution by the Empire. Seeing as the Jedi Master had long been a resourceful member of the Order, it is not unlikely that he could have survived. His tumultuous past could also make him a prime character to focus on in the future Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
He was once Asajj Ventress’ lover and played a pivotal role in the attempted assassination of Count Dooku. While this is one of the darkest points in the Jedi’s history, as the Jedi Council assigned Master Quinlan Vos the task of assassinating the Sith Lord, it’s a major step in Quinlan Vos’ journey. The time he spends with Asajj Ventress and under the influence of Count Dooku after failing to kill him is likely to have built on the skills he would have already possessed to survive.
Using a Jedi like Quinlan Vos as the main character of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 could show how different Jedi were able to survive. Not everyone would have been able to find the support they needed and older Jedi struggled just as much under the Empire. While many Masters went into hiding the headstrong personality that Vos possessed could help to tell another unique story. One where the Jedi still struggle but also one where like Ahsoka Tano, other Jedi realize that sometimes the peaceful teachings of the Jedi were not enough when confronting the ultimate evil that the Empire was.
