Sentinel will be one of the first Hunters players will unlock in Star Wars Hunters, which they can do by collecting enough player XP by playing matches. They are a Tank-class hero and their tagline is “Imperial Heavy Gunner.” They are armed with the E-Web Heavy Repeater, making them very formidable while they are fighting at range.

Sentinel has a kit that revolves around keeping their enemies at a distance, and their Ultimate can feel truly overwhelming when combined with their Combat Shield. They make for one of the best Tank characters in the entire game. To make the most of this character and lead your team to victory, players will benefit from knowing these tips for playing as Sentinel in Star Wars: Hunters.

All Sentinel Abilities in Star Wars: Hunters (& How To Use Them)

Combat Shield

Combat Shield Sentinel Star Wars Hunters

When taking on enemies, Sentinel can take more than his fair share of damage due to him being one of the Tank heroes. While some Tank heroes have means of healing themselves, Sentinel has no such abilities in his kit — he makes up for this with his Combat Shield.

The Combat Shield will absorb damage while he is able to keep on attacking. The first upgrade to this hero will come in the form of increasing the health of this shield by 75 points, raising it from 235 up to 300. It will not receive another health increase until Hunter Fame level 21.

It is recommended to hold off on using this shield when, in a 1 on 1 fight, you can win without it, just in case there is another enemy coming that you'll need more protection from.

Suppressing Shot

Suppressing Shot Sentinel Star Wars Hunters

Suppressing Shot is a great way to stop an enemy in their tracks. This ability will knock down an enemy who is trying to rush or is charging up for something big. Being able to stun and knock down an enemy means they will not be able to deal damage, and all nearby friends and teammates can concentrate their damage on the same area.

This works very well for Sentinel's playstyle of fighting at range and being able to assist their melee focused enemies that are locked in combat. It is best to hold onto this ability until you need it, as it has a cooldown of 10 seconds. You will want to use it against enemies that are fighting with your allies to help give them the upper hand and get an advantage over their target.

Barrel Slam

Barrel Slam Sentinel Star Wars Hunters

As stated earlier, Sentinel is best at range, so when a melee enemy closes the gap, that is when you use Barrel Slam on them. This will knock them back so they are not as dangerous as when they are up close. This ability should be kept for whenever a melee enemy gets in close, or you see an enemy near a ledge that you can knock them off.

Wherever you go around a corner, always move wide out, so you can see what is ahead of you, and what is around the corner while there is lots of room between you. This will allow you to move back while fighting to ensure you are not matched with a melee attacker, preventing the use of this ability early. The longer it takes them to close the gap before and after this ability, the more likely you are to win the exchange.

Empire’s Finest (Ultimate)

Ultimate Sentinel Star Wars Hunters

While learning a game, players will discover plenty of fun and highly effective skills, such as getting a turret. A turret can act as another source of dealing damage to drop enemies faster, and can have some incredibly accurate shots. Sentinel's Ultimate calls in two Stormtroopers to back him up and attack any and all enemies they encounter. However, unlike turrets, these Stormtroopers will follow Sentinel around corners and can even get up to higher ground. This makes them an Ultimate that can help turn the tables against a large group of enemies.

While this Ultimate is active, players will see a spike in damage output, and can still use any of their other abilities while it is active. This Ultimate is best used when pushing for victory conditions. Players will want to use this when there are multiple enemies on the Control Point, or when they come across multiple enemies grouped together. It is not recommended to use this ability for one-on-one encounters, as it will take a while to charge up again.

Best Strategies for Playing as Sentinel

Tan Sentinel Star Wars Hunters

Sentinel will constantly be a presence and a threat in matches and generally play the same way. However, depending on whether you are playing Squad Brawl or a game mode with a control point, it will require different placement. Players will want to keep their distance and use their Combat Shield once they start taking ranged damage — to mitigate as much of it as possible. Players should never try to get into close range, as Sentinel is most effective when enemies are trying to get to them. Whenever something does close in, use a Barrel Slam and walk backwards while shooting. Save your Surpressing Shot for when allies are around and can pile the damage on a stunned foe, or use it against a melee enemy that is attacking an ally.

Ultimate Ability Situations

Squad Brawl: When your Ultimate is ready in Squad Brawl, do not follow allies. Instead, try to meet up with where they are heading to cross paths with enemies that they would miss. This also gives you the opportunity to flank enemies they run into. If on your own, use your Ultimate to gain an advantage over enemies you run into.

Control Points: When your Ultimate is ready in a game mode where you need to control a point, wait until there are at least 2 enemies on the Point, and that you have an ally nearby. Then use your Ultimate to flush them off the point, so your allies can swoop in.
