Grogu quickly became a fan-favorite character across The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. But surprisingly, the original Star Wars mastermind George Lucas had a small say in how his character arc goes.

As The Mandalorian fans recall, Grogu was revealed to be a force sensative child who had been at the Jedi Temple during the purge in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Though Grogu's power was a central plot point in The Mandalorian's first two seasons, Lucas evidently had some concerns about the child's abilities.

In the book titled The Art of The Mandalorian, producer Dave Filoni revealed that Grogu receiving Jedi training was Lucas' idea. Filoni states in his book, “I had a talk with George at one point about the Child, and his main concern was that the kid has to have a proper amount of training." Fans were shocked to see Luke Skywalker meet with Grogu in TheMandalorian season 2 finale, but given the Jedi Academy that Luke creates between Episodes VI and VII, this was the perfect way to fulfill Lucas' wish. But as seen in The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu's training was short-lived. The core Jedi principles involve focus and detachment from personal desires. Compassion is important, but attachment to loved ones is unacceptable. This was why Grogu couldn't commit to Jedi ideals, and when faced with the option to rejoin Din Djarin, he takes it.

Most viewers will agree that Grogu made the right choice, and while he could've been a great Jedi, this was never his path. But perhaps the Jedi lifestyle is an inherently flawed one. As seen in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and The Last Jedi, the Jedi have failed to prevent the Sith's fascism time and time again. The world is not black and white, it's only different shades of gray, and living in absolutes doesn't work.

Which comes back to the offer Luke gives Grogu. Luke only allowed him to make one choice, the way of the Jedi, or the way of the Mandalorians. But who's to say Grogu can't have both? If he picks and chooses elements of both ideologies, he could live up to his fullest possible potential. These questions have been expanded on in the Star Wars Expanded Universe with concepts like the Gray Jedi and the Mandalorian Jedi, and it would be fascinating to see Grogu find this path.

But for now, Grogu will stay exclusively with Din Djarin. What sort of adventures will they go on next? Fans are sure to find out when the greatest show on Disney Plus returns for more.

The Mandalorian season 3 is currently in production.
