Star Wars games have always been popular with fans of the franchise, but ever since the Disney acquisition of the Star Wars franchise in 2012, there have been several cancelations in Star Wars’ gaming scene. That is until Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order put it back on the map. It is being developed by Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment, which is the developer behind games such as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and The Division franchise. Star Wars Outlaws follows the protagonist Kay Vess and her cute little companion Nix as she navigates her way through the criminal underworld of the Star Wars galaxy and attempts the biggest heist the Outer Rim has seen. Star Wars Outlaws is currently scheduled for release in 2024 on the following platforms:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X and S
  • Microsoft Windows

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster

The first game in the Star Wars: Jedi Knight series, Star Wars: Dark Forces, is a beloved classic first-person shooter that was originally released in 1995 and introduced players to the protagonist Kyle Katarn. Star Wars: Dark Forces follows Kyle Katarn, a mercenary for hire, as he joins the Rebel Alliance, infiltrates the Galactic Empire, and discovers their secret project, the Dark Trooper Project.

A remaster for Star Wars: Dark Forces is being developed by Nightdive Studios and is scheduled to release on 28th February 2024 and will bring new and returning players to experience this classic once again in all new updated visuals. The Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster will be released on the following platforms:

  • PlayStation 5
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox Series X and S
  • Xbox One
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Microsoft Windows

Star Wars: Hunters

Star Wars: Hunters is a free-to-play third-person shooter developed by Zynga and NaturalMotion and is set to be released in 2024 on the following platforms:

  • Nintendo Switch
  • IOS
  • Android

Star Wars: Hunters is set after the fall of the Galactic Empire and sees players fighting in thrilling arena-based combat in teams of four players. The premise of Star Wars: Hunters is about a tournament called Hunters of the Outer Rim where competitors must compete against each other on the planet of Vespaara for glory and fortune.

There are a variety of characters that are slated to appear in Star Wars: Hunters, from Stormtroopers and Rebels to Bounty Hunters, and even Force Wielders, as well as many others. Here are the playable characters that have been confirmed to appear:

  • Aran Tal: A tough Mandalorian warrior who wields dual blasters.
  • Charr: A ferocious Trandoshan trapper who loves the thrill of the arena.
  • Diago: A suave Miraluka sharpshooter. Since the Miraluka in Star Wars are born without sight, the audience of the arena is amazed by his abilities and suspects that he is using the Force.
  • Grozz: A Wookie who is well known in the sports scene in the Star Wars galaxy, especially from his days as a pro Huttballer.
  • Imara Vex: A mysterious, ruthless Bounty Hunter who joined the arena to pick up more bounties.
  • J-3DI: A droid who thinks that he’s a Jedi, dresses in full Jedi garb, and is equipped with a Lightsaber, as well as having simulated Force abilities.
  • Sentinel: An arrogant former Stormtrooper who is still loyal to the Galactic Empire in Star Wars. He wields an impressive machine gun.
  • Slingshot: An Ugnaught and a former Separatist Droideka, an inseparable duo.
  • Skora: A Rodian scientist and engineer. She has ties to the criminal underworld and used to be a medic for the Hutt Cartel.
  • Sprocket: A childlike and intelligent Mon Calamari who has a close bond with J-3DI, who he reprogrammed to behave and think like a Jedi.
  • Rieve: A fierce-looking Force Wielder who is aligned with the dark side, and she is also an assassin.
  • Zaina: A former Rebel Veteran who now serves the New Republic. She is described to be a natural-born leader.
  • Utooni: Two Jawa brothers with one standing on the shoulder of the other to match the height requirement of the tournament.

Star Wars: Hunters has been subjected to quite a few unfortunate delays over the years. The game was originally going to launch back in 2021, but in late 2021 it was announced that Star Wars: Hunters would be delayed to 2022. Players who were curious about the game got more disappointing news when the game was announced again that there would be another delay, pushing the game to 2023, and then yet again another announcement in 2023 stating the game would be launched in 2024. However, in 2023, the game had a soft launch on Android devices in India, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Hopefully, 2024 will be the year that Star Wars: Hunters is officially launched around the world.

A Potential PS4 and Xbox One Release for Star Wars: Jedi Survivor

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Cal and BD1

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor on PS4 And Xbox One

In August 2023, Respawn Entertainment announced that it is working on releasing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on PS4 and Xbox One. It stated that it was in the early stages of developing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor for last-generation consoles. There is currently no release date, but there is a chance that it could be released in 2024, and if it does, it likely won’t be released until the end of 2024. However, since in August the port was still in the early stages, it seems likely that there will be new information and details about the port that will be revealed in 2024.

New details could include the stage of the development of the port, a potential trailer, or even a release date. Regardless, it certainly is a surprise move from Respawn Entertainment and EA to announce a port for last-generation consoles, especially after the company intended to bring it to current-generation consoles to utilize the full power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor had a myriad of issues at launch, especially with the PC version. Hopefully, the port won’t have those problems, but it likely won’t be as visually stunning as its current-generation counterpart due to last-generation consoles not supporting ray tracing and not being as powerful as modern ones. Whether or not Respawn Entertainment will announce anything new for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor or reveal more details about the port is uncertain, so fans will have to wait and find out in 2024.

Respawn Entertainment is quickly becoming one of the best AAA studios out there, and 2024 looks like it could be another great year for the developer.

Possible Updates On Star Wars: Eclipse, KOTOR Remake, And More

Everything That Has Currently Been Revealed About These Games

Many upcoming Star Wars games are still under development, and in 2023 many of the developers have been silent in regard to these titles. All announced Star Wars games in development include:

  • Star Wars: Eclipse: A branching narrative, action-adventure game set in the time of the High Republic. Star Wars: Eclipse is being developed by Quantic Dream, which is known for developing games such as Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls.
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake: A remake of the old classic RPG that was developed by BioWare. The remake was being developed by Aspyr before a developer called Saber Interactive took over.
  • Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars FPS: A single-player first-person shooter that is inspired by the classic game Star Wars: Dark Forces. It is hinted that the game will be developed in Unreal Engine 5 and will be a story-driven game.
  • Respawn Entertainment’s Strategy Game: Not much is currently known about this strategy game, but Respawn Entertainment has partnered with Bit Reactor to produce the game.
  • Amy Hennig’s Star Wars Game: Not much is known about this game, but it is being developed by Skydance New Media, and the director of the canceled Star Wars 1313 game, Dominic Robilliard, is working alongside it with Amy Hennig on the project.

Star Wars: Eclipse has been the target of many rumors stating that the game is in development trouble or is being delayed, but Quantic Dream has denied those rumors and insists that the game is still in development. Aside from those rumors, Quantic Dream has revealed that the game will feature never-before-seen planets and species to discover and will mainly be set in the Outer Rim.

The KOTOR remake is a complete recreation of the original classic released in 2003. Unfortunately, it has been through the grinder in its development and there have been reports that the KOTOR remake is currently not being worked on. It seems that the remake won’t be released anytime soon or at all. What is known is that Aspyr had several issues with the development of the game and that Saber Interactive, who was assisting them, had completely taken over the development. It has been confirmed that the game was slated to release on PS5 and PC, with it coming to PS5 first as a timed exclusive.

What Information Could Be Revealed About These Games in 2024

Despite these games potentially being years away from release, it is still very possible for new information to be revealed in 2024. There could be some first look and premiere trailers, maybe even a planned year of release, or perhaps something as small as a developer update assuring fans that the game is still in development. If there is any major information or reveals in 2024, such as trailers, it will likely be announced at any of the following events:

  • Star Wars Day: May 4, 2024
  • Gamescom: 21 – 24 August, 2024
  • The Game Awards: December 2024

It is possible that there will be new information revealed at these events considering some of these games were announced over 2 years ago. However, the best bet for any announcement regarding these games is during Gamescom and The Games Awards, especially with The Game Awards’ track record for ‘world premiere’ announcements. Unfortunately, there is no Star Wars Celebration in 2024 as it is skipping the year and returning in 2025 and heading to Japan, so it is possible that some developers might wait and release a trailer during the Star Wars Celebration in 2025.

Whether developers are ready to share new information in 2024 is uncertain and fans of the franchise will have to wait and see. In the meantime, there are plenty of releases in both TV and games that Star Wars fans can look forward to in 2024, including Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws, which is scheduled to release in 2024.
