At one point in time, Star Wars was arguably the most popular entertainment franchise in the world, and there are still millions of fans who love the original trilogy. There are plenty of popular Star Wars characters, but Luke Skywalker sits at the very top because he was the hero who took down the Galactic Empire. He also saved his father, Darth Vader, by bringing him back to the Light side of the Force as Anakin.

After years of training, Luke became a true Jedi master, and in doing so, he was able to use a variety of Force abilities, like Force projection. That being said, there are plenty of canonical and non-canonical Force powers that he has never used.

Given his mastery of the Force, Luke could technically use them all, but he probably refuses to or has never heard of them.

8 Force Choke

Darth Vader's Force Choke in Star Wars: A New Hope

There have been instances of Jedi using Force Choke, but it is classified as a dark side Force ability, one which is synonymous with Darth Vader. At its core, Force Choke is a variant of Force Grip, which means that Luke can technically use it whenever he wants.

That being said, the Jedi would never turn to this ability because it goes against his values and teachings. Luke would never use the Force to squeeze or crush someone's throat, especially since it would cause the individual a great deal of fear and pain. That said, given Luke's strength, he could easily choke someone out from far away.

7 Possession

possession star wars sabine possessed by nightsister

The Nightsisters of Dathomir were feared because they could use Force sorcery, which allowed them to access the supernatural side of the Force. One of the abilities they could use is called Possession, and it allowed a Nightsister's spirit to inhabit the body of another individual and control them.

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Mother Talzin used this power to briefly take control of Count Dooku, and in Rebels, the spirits of dead Nightsisters used it to take over the bodies of Sabine Wren and Kanan Jarrus. Luke could theoretically learn to use such magic, but it is hard to picture him going out of his way to forcefully possess someone.

6 Deadly Sight

deadly sight being used by a sith, Star Wars

Deadly Sight is no longer canon, and when it was, a female Dark Jedi named Sariss was the only known individual to have used it after the Rule of Two was established. In order to use this Force skill, an individual must focus their fury and hatred until it can be projected through their eyes.

In doing so, someone can inflict a great deal of pain on individuals. The victim's skin can blister, and in some cases, parts of their bodies can be vaporized. It can be used on entire groups of people as long as they are in the user's field of vision, which means that even allies would be harmed.

5 Force Scream

Force Scream may be considered a dark side ability, but it can be used by any Force user as long as they feel immense frustration, rage, or grief. It is now part of Legends, even though Vader used it in Revenge of the Sith after learning of the death of his wife, Padmé Amidala.

This scream is amplified through the Force, and it creates literal shock waves that can devastate those in close proximity. It can smash through mental and physical defenses, but it is viewed as a wave of hatred, which explains why Luke has never manifested it.

4 Force Destruction

Force Destruction is a Legends ability that has been used by Sith Lords like Darth Bane, but it was used by former Jedi as well. It involves creating a large and powerful energy field that could be thrown in a specific direction. A massive amount of stored-up energy is drawn from the dark side, and the user's body is used as a conduit.

If Luke used Force Destruction, he would release it from his hand, and it would produce a massive blast radius that could vaporize anyone close to it. This ability requires a great deal of focus and concentration, and it is extremely exhausting.

3 Dark Illusion

Force visions allow a Force user to see into the past and future, and Dark Illusion is an ancient dark side ability that can hijack these visions. This power causes a Force vision to attack a selected target, and Sidious used this against Yoda during the Clone Wars.

The dark illusion can attack its target from across the galaxy, and in order for Luke to use it, he would need to recite a Sith ritual while setting up a Force-bond. It would also require blood and Force Lightning.

2 Force Drain

While the movies have their fair share of issues, the sequel trilogy did at least showcase several new Force powers, including Force Drain. Emperor Palpatine used this ability on Ben Skywalker and Rey, and it allowed him to drain their life Force energy. When he absorbed this energy, his deteriorating clone body was able to fully heal.

The user literally drains the life out of others with this ability, and although Palpatine is the only individual to use this ability in the movies, it has been used by multiple Force-sensitives throughout history. Luke could easily use this ability if he wanted to, but he never has, which is understandable since it would involve stealing someone's life.

1 Force Lightning

Palpatine in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Force Lightning is the trademark dark side ability used by Emperor Palpatine, but it has been used by others like Count Dooku and Rey, the latter of which was not a Sith. This offensive power allowed the user to fire electrical energy from their hands.

Force Lightning can cause a great deal of pain and disfigurement, and with enough power, it can kill someone or even disintegrate them. It can even be used to destroy ships and other objects. Luke knows what it feels like to be hit with lightning, so it is unlikely that he will ever use it willingly.
