The trailer for Quantic Dream's Star Wars Eclipse blew fans away at The Game Awards 2021, with many expressing excitement to play a narrative-driven Star Wars game from the studio behind Heavy Rain. Since then, it has become apparent that Star Wars Eclipse was announced way ahead of its potential release date. Now a new report has provided more clarification, indicating that fans may be waiting at least five years to play the game.

This report comes from Xfire, written by leaker Tom Henderson, who previously leaked Star Wars Eclipse ahead of its Game Awards reveal. According to Henderson, part of the reason why Quantic Dream announced Star Wars Eclipse so early was an attempt to attract developers to its studio, as it's found it difficult to get talent to work on the game. As pointed out in Henderson's report, Quantic Dream has been accused of mistreating its workers and cultivating a toxic work environment, which is likely playing a role in the studio's apparent inability to hire new talent.

Henderson's report includes evidence that Quantic Dream job listings have been regularly updated to make it seem like they were posted more recently, perhaps as a way to avoid looking like it is finding it difficult to fill the roles.

In the meantime, Henderson also offers another possibility for why the Star Wars Eclipse trailer was dropped so early despite the game apparently being a minimum of five years away. Henderson cites a source that says that this was done as an attempt by Quantic Dream "to attract potential buyers." Microsoft and Sony are both purchasing studios in an attempt to bolster their lineup of exclusives, and if the information from Henderson's source is accurate, it would seem that Quantic Dream wants to be one of them.

If a company was going to purchase Quantic Dream, one would think that Sony would be the most obvious candidate. After all, Sony and Quantic Dream have a long history together, with PlayStation publishing Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human as PlayStation console exclusives. Then again, Quantic Dream's workplace problems and the controversies surrounding founder David Cage may very well be playing a role in why PlayStation and no else has purchased the studio yet.

While fans may be waiting years to play Quantic Dream's Star Wars Eclipse, there should be plenty of other Star Wars gaming projects released in the interim, including LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, the open world Star Wars game from Ubisoft, and the others that are in the works.

Star Wars Eclipse is in development.
