Star Wars: Eclipse is the latest project coming from Quantic Dream, giving fans their first look into High Republic era of Star Wars. Quantic Dream officially revealed the game at The Game Awards 2021, offering a glimpse into Star Wars' future—or rather its past.

The High Republic era of Star Wars is a time long before the events of the films and adventures the series is most well known for. Not to be confused with the Old Republic, which is thousands of years before the films, the High Republic is set only a couple hundred years prior to the Prequel Trilogy. This period was introduced and named following Disney's acquisition of Star Wars, and has primarily been explored through novels and comicbooks.

Star Wars: Eclipse was rumored to be in development for some time, fans getting excited at the potential of a Quantic Dream title set in the Star Wars universe. In typical Quantic Dream fashion, the game is set to offer a vast, and highly replayable narrative thanks to its large characters and branching paths. While some familar faces and locations appear in the trailer (like potentially Yoda on Coruscant), Star Wars: Eclipse is exploring new parts of the Galaxy that haven't been seen before. According to Quantic Dream, the game is set in the Outer Rim featuring "never-before-seen species and planets" and "is rife with opportunity - and political tensions."

Quantic Dream's last title was Detroit: Beyond Human, an ambitious science-fiction title that centered on the affairs between humans and androids. Gamplay often involves walking around locations to interact with objects and other characters, intense conversation sections where every decision matters, and quick-time events, that are bound to either please or frustrate players. Such a wide cast of characters presents an opportunity for atypical gameplay experiences though, as some will have unique abilities and change up the game. With so many characters and decisions to be made, there are many different outcomes for the game's narrative, meaning no two first playthroughs are bound to be alike.

It's time to add game to the list of Star Wars projects in development. From the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, to Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and the sequel to Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, there are so many titles for fans to look forward to in the coming years. Star Wars: Eclipse is going to fulfill a particular void with its high-focus on storytelling as well as its ambitious foray as the first game set within the High Republic era. It will be sometime before it releases, but thankfully there are many other Star Wars games coming prior to its release.

Star Wars: Eclipse is currently in early development.
