Star Wars Eclipse is an exciting, but incredibly mysterious, upcoming game from developer Quantic Dream. Responsible for games like Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain, Star Wars Eclipse being in the hands of such a unique developer is an intriguing prospect. There isn't much known about the game, but what little is confirmed about the planned characters is a promising concept.

Announced back in 2021, Star Wars Eclipse has kept fairly quiet about what is to be expected from the game. There are, however, some compelling features that have been confirmed, like how anyone in Star Wars Eclipse can die. For those familiar with Quantic Dream games, there is a huge emphasis on choice and how those choices affect the overall story, which is exciting to approach with a Star Wars game. It's known that Star Wars Eclipse will feature multiple playable characters, and embracing a diverse cast is a risk that could pay off really well.

Star Wars Eclipse Featuring Diverse Characters Should Be a Vast Tapestry

Star Wars games have starred a variety of great protagonists. Whether it's Fallen Order's Cal Kestis or a fighter pilot in Squadrons, Star Wars games have featured both Force-users and non-Force-users, but they tend to just focus on one camp. Star Wars Eclipse could include an exciting twist by making the multiple playable characters in the game an equal mix of Jedi, Sith, and more. Quantic Dream games are known for offering different, unique perspectives, and this would be a perfect formula for showcasing a variety of iconic character-types and tropes that have been featured in Star Wars.

Star Wars Eclipse Offering a Varied Story

The stories of Quantic Dream games tend to be compelling looks into characters' lives and how their choices affect their surroundings, and seeing the lives of both Force-users and non-Force-users in an in-depth and personal way could bring to life a truly special Star Wars game. The most recent Star Wars games to be released have offered some of the best game adaptations of the long-running franchise, but Quantic Dream has the chance to take things even further.

Star Wars boasts one of the richest sci-fi worlds filled with tons of lore to use as inspiration. That, mixed with Quantic Dream's love for crafting interwoven stories that form a great, big web of a narrative, might bring forth one of the greatest Star Wars stories of its time, if done correctly. This could be tricky for Quantic Dream, but it's not impossible.

Star Wars Eclipse will be set during the High Republic Era, a time of great innovation and expansion in Star Wars lore, which is fertile soil for the game's story to be a vast exploration of the galaxy.

Keeping Star Wars Eclipse Balanced

As great of a concept as this could be, it is also complex. There is no telling just how far into development Star Wars Eclipse is, but Quantic Dream has claimed that the game is "just simmering", which raises even more questions. It's highly possible that Star Wars Eclipse could have a long development cycle ahead of it, especially with a developer as ambitious as Quantic Dream. Weaving all of these potential stories with Sith, Jedi, and any character who isn't a Force-user would be easy to get lost in. Balance is the key to such a concept, but if pulled off, it could be groundbreaking.

Currently, there is no clear timeline for when to expect Star Wars Eclipse news, but the game at least currently remains in development. There is a lot of potential in Quantic Dream taking on a Star Wars project, and with its track record of connected stories, Star Wars Eclipse will hopefully prove to be something special.
