The team working on a fan-made Star Wars: Dark Forces remake has provided an update via an alpha teaser trailer. The footage shows fans what they can expect with Shadow Art Games's Star Wars project, if and when it releases to the public.

Star Wars: Dark Forces originally released back in 1995, available on PC and the PlayStation. Visually, the game looks closer to Doom or Wolfenstein than the first-person shooter titles that fans are used to today. That is all the more reason that this fan-made remake looks so stunning, as it is recreated entirely in Unreal Engine 4, which is free for all developers, making it a go-to engine for small teams and fan-made projects.

There have been so many Star Wars games throughout the years, some great and some less memorable. It's easy to forget about Star Wars: Dark Forces, but the game was enjoyed by many, selling almost 1 million copies. The game also saw a few sequels that eventually formed into the Jedi Knight games, more hack and slash than FPS. While the original Star Wars: Dark Forces may not be the first name mentioned in a list of best Star Wars games, many fans will be excited to see it come back.

One of the nice things about this project is that it is simply still alive. Many times, fan made games like this receive cease and desist letters, like a Goldeneye 007 project that was recently shut down. The team working on that remake had to shift gears and instead work on a totally new spy-themed first-person shooter. Within just a few months of being shut down, an entirely new 007 game was announced to be in development from the team behind the Hitman games. In the case of Star Wars: Dark Forces, the project may be allowed to live on if a similar game isn't being worked on as an officially licensed next-gen type title.
