Star Wars fans have mixed reactions to how Barris Offee's story arc changed in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series.

Barriss Offee debuted in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. She struck a friendship with Ahsoka Tano despite their contrasting personalities. However, what fans thought was a lifetime bond turned awry when she framed Ahsoka in the "Wrong Jedi" and left the Jedi Order behind. From there, Offee left until her arrest in The Clone Wars, leaving some fans confused about how a character introduced as a dutiful Jedi Padawan slipped and fell to the dark side.

Star Wars Fans Call Out Obi-Wan Kenobi's 'Most Overlooked Mistake' With Anakin's Training

Star Wars fans point out a mistake they believe Obi-Wan Kenobi made while training Anakin Skywalker that doesn't get much attention.

A Star Wars fan (AdSpecialist6598) took to Reddit and shared a snap of Barris Offee. The online user admitted that they were conflicted about her story arc because, on the one hand, it seemed well done, and it was clear why she turned to the dark side. However, another part of the fan wished she had remained an ally, not a villain. A different user seemingly shared the same sentiment, noting that she loved Barris Offee as a healer in the Expanded Universe books, making it difficult to accept how the character was portrayed in the Clone Wars series.

Other Star Wars fans have different opinions about the character. One said Barris Offee doesn't have an arc because she only appeared twice in Clone Wars season 2 and disappeared during the bombing, and when she returned, she was already against the Jedi. There was a "big twist" missing for character development. Another viewer said it was a missed opportunity. The netizen believed it would have been better for Barris Offee to have been sentenced, convicted, and left alive.

The confusion and disappointment about Barris Offee's character are understandable. Offee was introduced as an ally. When she met Ahsoka during the second battle of Geonosis, they immediately hit it off and helped each other on numerous occasions. During the Clone Wars, she earned the Jedi Knight and General rank. Barris Offee and Ahsoka's friendship ended when the former betrayed the Jedi Order and framed the latter for the Jedi temple bombing. The incident painted the character as a traitor and murderer.

Barris Offee is an interesting character in the Star Wars franchise, and her limited screen time in the series doesn't give her justice. The conflicting feeling about the character slipping into the dark side is reasonable because even Barris Offee seemingly feels the same. She's doing horrible things not because it is her nature and she is one with the dark side but out of anger and frustration regarding the Jedi's core teachings that she can't reconcile. One could say that Offee is not really on the dark side, as she's seemingly operating independently. The 2018 reference book Star Wars: The Dark Side stated that she had been acting as a double agent for Sith. However, the episode established that she did it out of her hatred for the dark side and not because she was one with them. Also, in her confession, Barris Offee blamed the Jedi for the war, noting that they had lost their way and became villains, which was what happened to her. Barris Offee is someone in between. She wasn't 100 percent bad; she was just a lost soul, a lost Jedi who became a rebel.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is available on Disney Plus.
