More so than any other franchise, Star Wars is filled with iconic duos. In a universe filled with characters, some of them only work because of their partners. This idea comes to mind because of the recently released smash hit, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and in the first game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the main character, Cal, is assisted by a little droid named BD-1. How do they compare to some of the other duos in the franchise? Do they even rank in the top eight or are there others way above them? Let’s dive in and look at the various Star Wars games, movies, and TV shows to find out.

8 Lando Calrissian And L3-37

L3-37 and Lando in Star Wars

Lando Calrissian and L3-37 share one of the most tragic partnerships in the entire series. L3-37 is introduced in Solo: A Star Wars Story alongside a younger Lando. She is his partner in crime and they share a tight, fun bond in the movie.

She sacrifices herself to save Han, Lando, and the rest of the crew in a dire situation. Lando uses her programming and places it in the Millennium Falcon so that she could live on but as a non-sentient being. In retrospect, it makes losing the ship to Han more messed up.

7 Boba Fett And Fennec Shand

Boba Fett And Fennec Shand in The Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett was an odd middle season of The Mandalorian that received mixed reviews. Was this the version Boba Fett fans had been dreaming about since he met his untimely end in Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi? No, presumably it wasn’t a grand return for the character.

However, the parts of this season that did work were all of the interactions between Boba Fett and Fennec Shand. Fennec got a good redemption arc as Boba Fett’s right hand who periodically was even cooler than her boss.

6 Chirrut Imwe And Baze Malbus

Baze and Chirrut in Rogue One

Chirrut Imwe and Baze Malbus are two brothers from Rogue One. Chirrut is a blind man that can see using the power of the Force, while Baze is armed to the teeth with heavy weaponry. Baze is the pessimist of the two who always thinks something bad is going to happen.

Chirrut’s positive attitude and trust within the Force help balance the two viewpoints out perfectly. Like everyone else in Rogue One, they too meet a terrible ending. At least their sacrifice didn’t end in vain.

5 Obi-Wan Kenobi And Anakin Skywalker

Obi-Wan Kenobi And Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker don’t have the best connection in the prequel trilogy. No one truly acts well in those movies despite the actors giving it their all with poor dialogue. It’s hard to get a good feel between the two characters in the live-action movies, but it’s a lot more apparent in the cartoons via Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Anakin is a lot more likable in that show, which is why his downfall to the dark side is more tragic. It’s also sad given the fact Obi-Wan loses not only a pupil but a brother.

4 Din Djarin And Grogu

Din Djarin And Grogu in The Mandalorian

The reveal of Grogu in the first episode of The Mandalorian was a huge surprise as Disney kept him under wraps. Another Yoda-like creature is finally part of the Star Wars universe again? It was a miracle and on top of that Grogu was a practical effect via a puppet.

The two’s relationship starts as a contract, but as the seasons go on, Din adopts Grogu as his alien son. It’s a sweet tale that warms the heart and fans can never get enough of this cute little critter. Disney is going to pump out Grogu merchandise until they collapse.

3 Han Solo And Chewbacca

Chewbacca and Han Solo in Star Wars

Han Solo and Chewbacca might be the first pair that comes to mind when it comes to Star Wars duos. They do everything together from chilling in the Millennium Falcon to stopping Imperial Troops for the Rebellion. Even though the audience can’t understand Chewbacca, they know this hairy creature cares for Han deeply.

The scream he lets out when Han gets killed by Kylo Ren in Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens is the perfect example. He doesn’t care if Kylo Ren is Han’s kid, Chewbacca wants revenge right then and there for his best friend.

2 R2-D2 And C-3PO

R2-D2 And C-3PO in Star Wars

R2-D2 and C-3PO are a slightly better duo than Han and Chewbacca. They’ve been together for even longer, dating back to the prequel trilogy. It’s another duo wherein the audience has to get interpretations from one of the other characters in the pair.

C-3PO translates for R2-D2’s various beeps and boops which do have a range from angry to sad surprisingly. The poshness of C-3PO mixed with R2-D2’s more brash attitude is what makes this duo a straight-up comedy act in the Star Wars universe.

1 Cal And BD-1

Cal and BD-1 in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

Cal and BD-1 don’t win as a duo just because Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the new hotness right now. That is certainly part of it, but it’s the very nature that they are from a video game that helps them claim victory even over some of the more classic characters in the franchise.

Video games give fans more time to interact with characters. Playing a twenty-plus hour experience is naturally going to bond players to characters more than a few movies ever can. Now, if only fans could get a Han and Chewbacca game. Maybe then the scales would tip in their favor or any other pair in this list.
