Hitting the video game scene all the way back in 1982 with the surprisingly okay Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back for the Atari 2600, Star Wars has had a long and storied history in the video game industry, releasing well over 100 games over the last 40+ years. Naturally, with so many games out there, every Star Wars fan has their own particular favorite, but far more often than not, the classic Star Wars: Battlefront games are usually at the very top of fans' lists.

Released back in 2004, the very first Star Wars: Battlefront gave fans their first real opportunity to participate in some of the franchise's most iconic battles, and though it's often overshadowed by its younger brother, the first Battlefront has a level of grittiness that's kept it unique 20 years later. To celebrate this major milestone, Aspyr is releasing the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection next month, bringing both beloved 2000s titles together in one neat and complete package - one that even includes some originally platform-exclusive bonus content.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection's Bonus Content Explained

Every Bonus Map Heading to Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection

All the way back in January 2006, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 received two DLC packs, exclusively available via Xbox Live. While the first DLC was free and only added the ability to play the game's iconic Hero Assault mode on Kashyyyk, the second DLC contained a wealth of new content, including bonus characters and maps. Aspyr's upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is set to contain all of this DLC content, available for the first time on all platforms.

Aspyr's Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection will contain six bonus maps in total. The first Star Wars: Battlefront will have just one bonus map, the very original version of Jabba's Palace that was first made available via a post-launch patch for PC and Xbox. Star Wars: Battlefront 2, on the other hand, is set to receive all five of its bonus maps, most of which are actually remakes of original Star Wars: Battlefront maps such as Rhen Var Harbor and Citadel, and Cloud City.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection's Bonus Hero and Villain

The original 2006 Xbox-exclusive Star Wars: Battlefront 2 DLC also contained two new playable characters, both of which will be available in Aspyr's Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. On the Hero's side, Jedi Master Kit Fisto will be joining the fray, complete with his Lightsaber Throw and Force Orb abilities, making him a deadly adversary at long-range. On the Villain's side, Clone Wars icon Asajj Ventress leaps into battle, wielding nunchuck-like Linksabers and Star Blade throwing knives.

While players will be able to find these bonus characters in the vast majority of game modes, they'll be especially prominent in Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection's Hero Assault mode. One of the most beloved multiplayer modes in all of Star Wars gaming history, Hero Assault lets players duke it out as the galaxy's finest warriors, ranging from Heroes like Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, to Villains like Darth Vader, Jango Fett, and Count Dooku. While many fans will remember only being allowed to play this mode on Tatooine, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is expanding the mode to be playable on all ground maps.
