Highlights

  • Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is a treasure trove of Clone Wars content that the EA reboot lacks.
  • Playable characters like Aayla Secura, Anakin Skywalker, General Grievous, and more make a return in this classic collection.
  • The original game offers a Clone Wars story campaign from a clone trooper's perspective, narrated by Temuera Morrison, and any fans of this era of Star Wars lore owe it to themselves to check the game out.

Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection was a surprise announcement during the latest Nintendo Direct that has plenty of old school gamers excited. Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection will bring back two of Star Wars’ most iconic games to fans old and new, while also bringing them to new consoles. There is one major thing that stands out between the original Star Wars Battlefront and the EA reboot, and that's Clone Wars content.

While other Star Wars games have featured Clone Wars content, such as the flashback in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the maps in EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 2, none of these games have focused entirely on the era, providing nods to the Clone Wars era but not fully embracing it. As such, the release of Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection on March 14 fills a distinct niche, ensuring it is a must-play for Clone Wars fans.

With the final season of The Bad Batch approaching, now might be the right time for a Star Wars game based on the shows' protagonists, Clone Force 99.

The Original Star Wars Battlefront Games Are a Gold Mine Of Clone Wars Content

More Clone Wars Content Than The Star Wars Battlefront Reboot

The Star Wars Battlefront games are very popular, both in terms of the original and reboot series, but in regard to Clone Wars content, the reboot doesn’t have much to offer. In fact, the reboot of Star Wars Battlefront 1 didn’t include any Clone Wars or Prequel Trilogy content, as it only featured the Original Trilogy.

Luckily, in Star Wars Battlefront 2, Clone Wars content was included, but it was not nearly as much as the original games had. There was no story campaign about the Clone Wars, no characters from the Clone Wars series, and only a few select maps. The original Star Wars Battlefront included all these things, such as characters from Star Wars' Prequel Trilogy and a variety of maps, as well as entire story campaigns focused on the Clone Wars.

A Clone Wars Story Campaign From The Perspective of a Clone Trooper

The Star Wars Battlefront 2 reboot offers a campaign where players play from the perspective of an elite imperial squad, but in the original games, the campaigns were set during the Clone Wars era of Star Wars - albeit the pre-Disney iteration. The campaign in the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 vastly improved upon its predecessor in that, instead of using scenes from the Prequel Trilogy, it had its own cutscenes.

The campaign highlighted the perspective of a 501st clone trooper, and the story was narrated by Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett and the Clones in the Prequel Trilogy. This story mode covered pivotal moments from Attack of the Clones all the way to The Empire Strikes Back, all the while players filled the shoes of clone troopers, only dressing as Stormtroopers in later stages of the story. Compared to the reboot series, the original is far more enticing for fans of the Clone Wars who want more in-depth content from that time period, not just maps and characters to play. If Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is a success, it may encourage developers to consider creating a Star Wars game based on the Clone Wars, something many would surely be interested in.

Playable Clone Wars Characters That Weren’t Playable in The Reboot

The Star Wars Battlefront 2 reboot missed out on a big opportunity when it came to playable characters. The games missed out on including a wide variety of Clone Wars characters (which was and still is a popular Star Wars show), such as Star Wars' Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, Asajj Ventress, Aayla Secura, Kit Fisto, and Ki-Adi Mundi, among many others.

However, in the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, there are a lot more Prequel and Clone Wars characters. The Clone Wars and Prequel Trilogy characters that will be appearing in Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection are as follows:

  • Aayla Secura
  • Anakin Skywalker
  • Asajj Ventress
  • Count Dooku
  • General Grievous
  • Jango Fett
  • Ki-Adi Mundi
  • Kit Fisto
  • Mace Windu
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Yoda

Unfortunately, Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection does not include characters that first appeared in the Clone Wars TV show, such as Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex, as the original games were released prior to the release of the show. Asajj Ventress and Kit Fisto were originally DLC characters when Star Wars Battlefront 2 was released, but they have been included in the base game for the release of Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection. Still, even without characters like Ahsoka, these classic games remain one of the best ways to experience the Clone Wars era in video game form.
