Highlights

  • Star Wars Battlefront 3 has yet to be announced, leaving fans puzzled and eager for a new installment in the popular series.
  • The Star Wars movies and TV shows, such as Solo and The Mandalorian, provide ample content and storytelling possibilities for a potential Star Wars Battlefront 3.
  • EA's previous inclusion of Loot Boxes in Star Wars Battlefront 2 received backlash, so it is expected that the next installment will avoid such controversial mechanics to create a fair and enjoyable online system.

Considering the fact that the Star Wars Battlefront series is so popular, it confuses fans that no Star Wars Battlefront 3 has emerged after all this time. There has been considerable speculation since the second game was released back in 2017 as to when a new Star Wars Battlefront game will come, but EA has pretty much been silent on the subject for quite a while.

Star Wars Battlefront Has Hit a Wall, But Could Look Elsewhere for Content

Star Wars Battlefront has seemingly run out of road in terms of mainline movie content, and should therefore look elsewhere for a potential sequel.

There is no doubt that fans of the third-person shooting genre and Star Wars fans would both love another game in this series, so why the delay? There has been plenty of time since Star Wars Battlefront 2, so there is no obvious reason as to why this game hasn’t even been announced. Plus, there are loads of reasons why such a game should exist.

6 The Story Continues

Kylo Ren in Star Wars

Star Wars Battlefront 2 was released in November 2017. Since then, two big Star Wars movies have hit theaters; Star Wars: A Solo Story and Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. While these films weren’t met with huge praise from fans and critics, they both contain plenty of content for a new Battlefront game to explore.

Imagine a map of Exegol in the Emperor's dark new throne room, or playing alongside the marauders from Solo. There are even new characters to include like Dryden Vos or Richard R. Grant’s villainous Pryde. Fans may not have liked where the story of the sequels went, but there is no denying that they provided some great material for a StarWars Battlefront 3.

5 Disney + Content

The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda Star Wars

The Star Wars franchise hasn’t just made waves on the big screen in recent years. Disney has also made several great Star Wars TV shows for Disney+. Shows like The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan, and Andor have all been met with praise from fans, which means Star Wars is still just as popular as ever.

Not only do these new TV shows provide more content for a Star Wars Battlefront 3, but they also afford new storytelling possibilities. One of the best parts of Star Wars Battlefront 2 was the unique story in the campaign mode. The developers need not come up with new material for another campaign in Star Wars Battlefront 3. Just give players the option to play through the events of the Disney+ shows, and they will be happy.

4 There Have Been Two Attempts Already

Star Wars Battlefront II (2005)

New Star Wars Battlefront fans may not remember that the new games from EA are a reboot of the Star Wars Battlefront series from the PS2 era. Even though these games are considered to not only be some of the best Star Wars games ever made but some of the best PS2 games, it has always been a mystery as to why Lucas Arts never gave fans a third game in this hugely successful saga.

Now that EA has given the franchise another swing, it only makes sense that they release a much coveted third installment. There are at least two generations of gamers waiting to see the number 3 on a Star Wars Battlefront game, after all.

3 EA Will Have Learned A Lesson

Electronic Arts EA Games name change strikethrough

Although Star Wars Battlefront 2 was largely met with high praise upon release, one of the biggest criticisms surrounding the game was the inclusion of Loot Boxes. These boxes removed some of the fun for a lot of online players and created a pay-to-win environment. As such, many who did not want to engage in the Loot Box mechanics quickly stopped playing.

Since Star Wars Battlefront 2 was largely aimed at young children and teens, the inclusion of this pay-to-win system was viewed as a way to exploit children. This controversy painted EA in a poor light, so it is unlikely that the company would try such a tactic again. Therefore, the next Star Wars Battlefront will most likely avoid Loot Boxes altogether, providing a fun and fair online system for all players.

2 Fallen Order Is Huge

The Star Wars Battlefront series isn’t the only Star Wars game EA has released since acquiring the license. The Jedi Fallen Order series is an open-world action-adventure game series set in the Star Wars universe. With sleek combat and a big replayability factor, the Fallen Order games have been a huge success for EA.

Star Wars' gaming sphere has never been as consistently exciting as it is right now with many diverse, upcoming titles to look forward to.

Surely, such a success will have the developers looking for new ways to capitalize on the property. So, why fix what isn’t broken? Instead of trying to come up with a new game concept, EA should just get to work on finishing a series that needs an ending. The series already has a built-in fan base, and new fans are jumping on board the Star Wars game wagon, thanks to Fallen Order.

1 Star Wars Still Makes Money

Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Hand-Painted Fan Posters

While Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker may not have lived up to everyone's expectations, it was still a huge success for the studio. The ninth installment in the Skywalker Saga still made over $1 billion at the box office. That means a lot of people rushed out to see it in the cinemas.

With Star Wars being such a recognizable IP, it only makes sense that it will draw in the crowds, even when the final project isn’t very good. Star Wars has proven time and again that it makes money in theaters, on TV, or as a video game. Since that is something the developers care about, it only makes sense to try to make a Star Wars Battlefront 3.
