According to a former developer, Star Wars Battlefront 3 was closer to being complete than many fans expected. The Battlefront series was rebooted not too long ago by DICE, and unfortunately, the series had to come to an early stop, and Star Wars Battlefront 3 will not be released anytime soon. This is an intriguing case of history repeating itself, though it seems like the original Battlefront 3's cancelation is extra devsatating.The Star Wars Battlefront series started in 2004 on the PS2, Xbox, and PC. The series featured first and third-person gameplay, allowing players to choose their preferred gameplay perspectives. Besides this feature, the game lets players take part in iconic battles from the Star Wars franchise, and its sequel managed to do the same while adding new features and improvements to the experience. Many years later, Electronic Arts released Star Wars Battlefront and its sequel, rebooting the series and reigniting the love for the Star Wars Battlefront franchise. Barclay stated that Star Wars Battlefront was extremely close to being finished, and it was going to be incredible. The tweet came as a response to another user asking game developers what was a game that got away, and thanks to this tweet, players can learn how close they were to experiencing another Star Wars Battlefront installment. Even though the modern Star Wars Battlefront 2 got mixed reviews at launch, many fans of the franchise still hoped to see a sequel. The original Battlefront 2 was beloved, however, and is the game that would have received this canceled sequel Barclay is referring to.

Sadly, Star Wars Battlefront fans did not get a third installment of the series on two occasions. At launch, the modern Star Wars Battlefront 2 was surrounded by controversies regarding its aggressive monetization practices. Even though the developers added tons of free content and managed to bring many players back to the game, it was not enough to consider the steep cost to make Star Wars Battlefront 3.

The Star Wars franchise has many canceled projects, and unfortunately, Battlefront 3 was just part of a longrunning trend. A couple of rumors have surfaced about the Star Wars franchise, and if they are true, fans could play an FPS Star Wars game in the future. However, they will always have to wonder what either version of Battlefront 3 could have been like.
