Highlights

  • Star Wars Battlefront excelled in representing actual battles on diverse planets, giving fans a more immersive experience compared to the movies.
  • The inclusion of generation-hopping characters and planets added to the epic scale and appeal of Star Wars Battlefront.
  • Cal Kestis, a character from the Star Wars Jedi franchise, could be a compelling addition to Star Wars Battlefront 3 with his lightsaber stances and droid companion, BD-1.

Star Wars Battlefront might not necessarily come to mind as the most popular or beloved Star Wars gaming franchise, but now that fans have had some distance put between it and themselves it isn’t difficult to see areas where it truly excelled. Star Wars Battlefront definitely made up for the climactic political wars waged in theatrical entries, representing actual battles on diverse planets that sought to loosely portray how fans might remember them. However, Star Wars Battlefront is much more epic in its scale, with generation-hopping characters being one of its most favorable features.

It was incredible to play as Leia Organa and engage in gunplay against Director Orson Krennic on Naboo in Star Wars Battlefront 2, for example, because neither character ever interacted with one another on-screen before, nor had they been seen on that planet. It could potentially be difficult for a third Battlefront to come up with refreshing content if it doesn’t branch out to alternate Star Wars media now, and if it did so it could actually win the affection of many more fans. One character whose modern prominence could make him a popular character is none other than Star Wars Jedi’s Cal Kestis.

Cal Kestis Could Be a Play on Star Wars Battlefront’s Jyn Erso

It is exciting to imagine how a new character could play in a potential Star Wars Battlefront 3, but it is also important to note that no such entry has been confirmed or rumored since its cancellation. Nonetheless, Cal could be a wonderful choice for a character inclusion if Star Wars Battlefront was to draw from a well of other Star Wars games or media.

Cal has only made appearances in the Star Wars Jedi franchise thus far, though rumors of him appearing in a live-action adaptation of his adventures have swirled online for a while now. Still, especially based on the merit of him originating in a game series, the possibilities for what his gameplay could look like in a Star Wars Battlefront 3 are fairly clear.

Cal doesn’t possess any Force powers that are remarkably unique to him alone—at least none that can be attributed to offensive combat like a Star Wars Battlefront game would necessitate—but his skills with a lightsaber and his trusty droid companion BD-1 could make fascinating additions to the game’s mechanics. Indeed, Cal has now mastered a handful of dynamic lightsaber stances, including a single-blade, double-blade, dual-blade, crossguard, and blaster stance. Therefore, any combination of stances could be exceptional for players to swap between in Star Wars Battlefront and could be designed similarly to how Jyn Erso would swap between different blaster configurations as her separate abilities.

Otherwise, characters such as Captain Phasma put out a droid to create AoE effects, and actual droids such as BB-8 and BB-9E were their own hero and villain respectively in Star Wars Battlefront 2, meaning that there is a ton of functionality that could be designed around BD-1. Cal’s droid could cling to his back like always, and when deployed as an ability BD-1 could potentially slice other droids and turn them on the player’s enemies. Other than The Force Unleashed’s Starkiller, it would be difficult to find a Star Wars game character more easily adaptable to Star Wars Battlefront.
