One of the best aspects of Star Wars is how many secondary, tertiary, or even lower grade characters get love from fans of the franchise. Sometimes, these characters even grow in that universe based on fan reception, and one of the arguably biggest examples of this is Ahsoka. Introduced in the animated Clone Wars show, Anakin Skywalker's Padawan has since grown from a secondary to a primary character, having appeared in Star Wars Rebels, The Mandalorian, and in her own upcoming show soon.

It appears that, thanks to her popularity, she was also once destined for Star Wars Battlefront 2. There have long been rumors that she would have been, or was supposed to be, one of Star Wars Battlefront 2’s DLC characters. Now, that’s been confirmed by the former game director on the title.

Dennis Branvall, the aforementioned director, commented on DLC hero plans on a recent Reddit thread that spilled over to his personal Twitter account. That thread has now been deleted, but according to Bespin Bulletin, Branvall discussed cut DLC content for Star Wars Battlefront 2. One of these was to add the planet of Mustafar as part of its Clone Wars DLC, alongside Ahsoka Tano and Asajj Ventress as DLC characters. Ultimately, this DLC was never released and it's not really clear why.

On the one hand, it’s totally normal for a video game to have a lot of content not make it off the cutting room floor. Red Dead Redemption 2’s cut content, as well as Grand Theft Auto 5’s, speak to the volume of things that never make it into a game. On the other hand, Ashoka would have been a really big get for the game, and it’s possible something like time, resources, or the like could have resulted in the cut.

Either way, it’s nice to know that the rumors of Ahsoka were never unfounded or misread. Star Wars Battlefront 2, nonetheless, managed to course-correct into a prime example of a video game’s redemption, much like No Man’s Sky. Its incredibly criticized launch and criticisms were met with tons of DLC, fixes, and the like, with many arguing that this turned the game into one of the best Star Wars games of the past decade.

It's uncertain what’s on the doc for future EA Star Wars games. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 has basically been confirmed, and rumors have it that at least one more story-based Star Wars game is in development. This comes on the same rumor that Star Wars Battlefront 3 was unfortunately shot down, which may be disappointing for many given the momentum Battlefront 2 really gave the sub-franchise.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
