There remains much mystery in the galaxy far, far away, as many Star Wars planets remain unexplored and unexplained. Andor is the new series that recently had a three-episode premiere on Disney Plus, and takes place before the original 1977 Star Wars. The series hopes to answer many questions about Cassian Andor’s life before Rogue One.
One of the questions raised in Andor is that of Cassian’s childhood and his planet of origin. Throughout the three episodes, audiences receive flashbacks to the planet Kenari, the origin world of Cassian, and how he came to be the man he is today. However, there are many unknowns about Kenari, just waiting to be discovered.
7 “Republic” Invaders
It’s been long known about Cassian’s character that he fought alongside the Separatists during the Clone Wars. When audiences take a look at the planet Kenari they may be wondering about the timeframe of the planet, but considering Cassian is a child, it takes place during the final year of the Clone Wars, if not shortly after Revenge of the Sith.
Upon a crashed vessel, the tribe on Kenari discovers sigils unknown to them, but to audiences, this is the symbol of the Separatist Alliance, an enemy of the Galactic Republic. However, Maarva explains they are “Republic,” so either they were spies set out to explore the strange planet, or something darker.
6 Lack Of Technology
Many of the planets seen in the Star Wars universe have some reliance on technology, especially when humanoid characters are involved. However, Kenari seems to lack any sense of technology, and even some advantages like mirrors.
When Cassian braves the unknown and enters the ship of the invaders, he looks at his reflection in the mirror and seems puzzled by his appearance. Cleary the Kenari haven’t figured out mirrors, and rely on more primitive weapons like blowdarts.
5 They Don’t Speak Basic
When audiences follow the story of the Kenari, they may be left confused by what the characters are saying. This is due to them speaking Kenari, without the use of subtitles to translate just what they are saying. Audiences are kept in the dark, much like Maarva, Clem and B2-EMO are, as they cannot translate him due to the unfamiliarity of his language.
The simplest form of language in the Star Wars universe is known as Basic and is the language that many of the species speak due to its simplicity. With a young Cassian not knowing Basic, it just goes to show how limited and hidden away this planet is from the galaxy.
4 It’s a Forested World
A far cry from Tatooine, Kenari lacks the dune seas and deserts that make Tatooine seem so awful. Kenari is a ripe and vegetative planet, thriving with strong greens and large forests. It’s a beautiful planet, like one gigantic rainforest that has yet to be pillaged by greed.
The appearance of Kenari may be confused with the forest moon of Endor, as both planets have large forests and societies that are unfamiliar with outside life. The entirety of Kenari may be home to some yet unknown creatures.
3 The Mid Rim Territory
It’s stated that Kenari is located in the Mid Rim territory, which is a location in the galaxy between the Expansion Region and the Outer Rim. There are fewer natural resources in the Mid Rim and a far denser population. It helps to explain the lack of invaders on Kenari, and why no one has heard of the planet.
The Mid Rim was relatively unexplored and was ripe for pirate raiders to hide themselves to assault trade routes. Perhaps the ship that crashed in the first three episodes was attacked by pirates, and they have fallen victim to crash-landing on the unknown forest planet.
2 Imperial Mining Accident
When audiences return to BBY 5, to follow the continuing story of an adult Cassian, they are told that Kenari is off-limits, due to an Imperial mining accident. This accident has left the planet guarded, and to ensure that no curious wanderers venture to the planet, perhaps to discover Imperial secrets.
This is not the first time the Empire has used a “mining accident” as a cover-up. Darth Vader made Director Krennic cover the destruction of Jedha from the Death Star as a “mining disaster.” Perhaps Kenari was the earliest planet tested on Death Star destruction.
1 Lack Of Adults
A strange aspect of Kenari is the fact that when audiences are introduced to Cassian’s tribe, they are all children. It begs the question of what happened to all the adults, that is if the adults even exist on this planet. There is much left unknown about the culture surrounding the Kenari people, and the lack of adults is one of the more notable ones.
There could be many factors to explain where the adults are. Perhaps the children have gone rogue from their tribe, or, the adults have been taken away and stolen by secret Separatist forces to fight for them against the Jedi and clone troopers.
