In any franchise, especially Star Wars, there tend to be foregone conclusions. Fans will assume certain things even without an explicit confirmation simply based on how much it wouldn't make sense to not be true. In many cases, those assumptions tend to involve fan-favorite characters making long-awaited debuts or returns, and Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka series appears to be no different.

Specifically, this instance refers to the heavily-implied appearance of Grand Admiral Thrawn in the upcoming Star Wars series Ahsoka. After the character played a major role in the Star Wars Rebels animated series and received a significant shout-out in The Mandalorian, it got to the point where it would probably be more of a surprise now if he didn't show up in Ahsoka. But up until now, the idea hasn't progressed much further than rumors and heavy implications. That may have just changed, however.

While appearing at a panel during the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Ahsoka star Dawson offered up some enticing words for hungry Star Wars fans. One question asked was, "where is [Thrawn]?" Naturally, she couldn't reveal anything concrete, but her answer seemed pretty telling. "That dude, man…incognito," Dawson said with a sly grin before playing around with her answer. "Maybe we get the Scarlet Witch to help us, she can jump through multiverses, right? Let’s go, girl! Yeah, I mean, that's a really big key kind of giveaway in [The Mandalorian] about what my show could potentially be about. Obviously, we are really trying to track [Thrawn] down, so we'll see what happens…"

At the very least, this seems to confirm that the search for Thrawn will play a significant part in the story of Ahsoka. With Dawson as the titular former Jedi alongside Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren (and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in a currently unknown role), the duo are certainly a force to be reckoned with that should give even Thrawn pause. Perhaps her comment about "multiverses" might be a clue as well, as Thrawn was last seen being thrust into hyperspace by the purrgil creatures in Star Wars Rebels. Such unknown power could possibly transcend dimensions. Naturally, it could also just as easily be a throwaway comment from Dawson.

But aside from Thrawn, there's also the issue of Ezra Bridger to contend with. As one of the leads in Star Wars Rebels, Ezra went out with a bang by inciting the purrgil to jump both him and Thrawn into hyperspace in the finale, saving the rest of his team in the process. Ever since then, Ahsoka and Sabine have been searching for Ezra, and apparently finding Thrawn is their biggest lead. The likelihood of both characters showing up in Ahsoka is so high in the minds of fans that many assume Aladdin star Mena Massoud and The Witcher's Lars Mikkelsen are already secretly signed on to play Ezra and Thrawn, respectively.

However things turn out, it will almost certainly become clearer the closer Ahsoka gets to its premiere. This is already one of the most highly-anticipated Star Wars projects since The Mandalorian, so the speculation will continue either way. But here's hoping fans get a little information soon, as a treat.

Ahsoka is set to premiere in 2023 on Disney Plus.
