The next big Star Wars series just got one step closer to its grand debut. With both Obi-Wan and Andor inching toward their own premieres, not to mention the upcoming 3rd season of The Mandalorian, it's not like fans are starving for content. But that doesn't mean they aren't always thirsty for more, and this one is special.

Ahsoka, the highly-anticipated live-action series starring Rosario Dawson as the titular togruta former Jedi first seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, has officially begun production. The news comes from Disney+ itself, who shared a seemingly standard behind-the-scenes picture of a director's chair emblazoned with the show's stylized title. But those who've kept up with Star Wars in recent years know full well what that hat dangling off the side means.

The photo shows what appears to be the chair soon to be occupied by Dave Filoni, the Executive Creative Director at Lucasfilm and creative mind behind much of Star Wars' most well-received entries over the past decade and beyond. While Filoni's directorial and writing abilities speak for themselves, his other signature styling is the cowboy hat that rarely leaves his head. Fans who have followed his work from The Clone Wars all the way to The Mandalorian will no doubt be champing at the bit to see what he comes up with this time.

Ahsoka stars Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, who made her debut nearly 15 years ago on the Clone Wars animated series. Voiced by Ashley Eckstein in all of her animated appearances, Ahsoka started out as an enthusiastic young Jedi padawan under the guidance of Anakin Skywalker himself (who is also set to show up in both Ahsoka and Obi-Wan, played once again by Hayden Christensen). But as the series went on, she eventually became jaded with the Jedi order's politics and struck out on her own.

Still serving the light side of the force, she would go on to make appearances in other shows like Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian, though she still featured prominently in the series that gave her a start. Her current goal during the time her series will take place is to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, who disappeared along with series lead Ezra Bridger in the finale to Rebels. That quest suggests that Ahsoka may feature the live-action debuts of Ezra and Thrawn along with Rebels character Sabine Wren, who was recently confirmed to appear in the series portrayed by Natasha Liu Bordizzo.

Many fans will remember Ahsoka's part in the recent final season of The Clone Wars, which many consider to be one of the franchise's highest points. Between that and her hype-worthy move to live-action on The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, it's no surprise that she now has her own show officially starting production. Fully aware of her importance to the fans, Filoni is putting a lot of thought into Ahsoka's writing process. So there's clearly a lot to look forward to here.

Ahsoka is now in production but has yet to receive a release date.
